The Lost Art of Conversation

I'm not sure where I got this theory (probably from Wikipedia), but for some time I've believed that dinner knives were invented so that guests wouldn't need to have their own (sharp) knives on their person to eat a meal. This would mean less chance of stabbings when nobles got together.
