(Two Days Later)
Sage, Ava, and Sarah had decided to have a little “get-together” to celebrate school being over. So, one warm, humid, day in June, they all got together at their old elementary school (this was convenient for them, because it was about a 10 minute walk for each of them.). Sarah had brought stuff for an obstacle course, (cones, flags, and stuff like that.) Sage had brought nerf guns and targets (which were made out of cardboard and painted with red and white “rings”.), for target practicing, and Ava had brought some of her stuffed animals for them to play with. Once they’d gotten there they put their stuff down on some of the metal benches. Sarah checked the time on her phone—it said 2:30 PM. Then, she walked over to a nice, clear spot in the field, which was dotted with dandelions. Sage and Ava followed. They all decided to get to work. But before they could, a weird sensation came over them, it was like they were being zapped with an energy laser, but, much less intense. At first, it tickled, then, it grew to be a feeling they couldn’t describe. Suddenly, they felt weak. Then, the world went black. That was when the transformation began.
The transformation was incredible, definitely something out of the ordinary. Sarah, Ava, and Sage were in a kind of sleep-state as soon as the transformation had begun. First, everything went dark. Dark, ominous clouds filled the sky casting a shadow across the field! Then, the three of them floated up a few feet off the ground and into the air! Their eyes glowed—each person’s a different color! Ava’s were white that slowly went to an ice blue. The same was true for Sage and Sarah. Sage’s were an electric lime green and Sarah’s were a hot, fiery, neon pink.
Then, their bodies glowed the same color of their eyes—Ava’s blue, Sage’s green and Sarah’s pink. Ava’s body became encased in ice and snow. Snowflakes orbited around her body as if she were some great planet and they were moons orbiting her. Sage’s body started surging with electricity and energy. Small sparks of energy and electricity rippled up, down and across her body. Sarah became a fiery hot inferno. Her body was covered in pink and orange flames. Those soon disappeared and instead, she now had cat claws and cat ears. Her shirt and pants tore as she balled her hands into fists. She let out an ear-shattering roar! The ground shivered and shook.
After this had happened, they dropped to the ground—eyes still glowing faintly.
After about 10 minutes they woke up and the transformation stopped. Then they noticed a few things. The first thing they noticed was that their clothes had changed. Ava’s pink, “selfie cat” shirt, blue denim shorts and pink tennis shoes had changed into an ice blue cloak, sky blue shirt and leggings and fluffy, white boots. Her cloak had white, fluffy trim around the edges on the bottom, cuffs and hood. Sage’s tie-dye shirt, black leggings and neon tennis shoes had changed into an “electric-lime” green jumpsuit with black “racer’s lines” and a big lightning bolt in the middle, she also had black “runner’s shoes”. Last of all, Sarah’s hot pink under armor hoodie (which was tied around her waist) white cat shirt, black capri pants and black tennis shoes hadn’t changed much, her shirt was now black, her hoodie (which she was now wearing and no longer had any rips or tears) now had a big, black paw-print in the middle and cat ears on the “hood-part”, she now had pants, which were all black and she had black boots, each had a small, hot pink paw-print towards the top. She also had cat claws, and when she took off her hood, the cat ears appeared on her head—they were a soft, velvety black with pink insides and charcoal grey fur on the outside.
The second thing they noticed was that they felt weird. Sage felt like she could run forever! Sarah had mixed feelings, and Ava felt cold. Suddenly Sarah got an interesting feeling. It was nothing she had ever felt before, it was kind of an electrifying kind of feeling. As it surged through her she could tell that Sage and Ava had also gotten it too, because, like her, they were also either on their knees, or gripping their head or sides.
After about 30 seconds of this, the world started going fuzzy and soon went black. When they finally “came to” they found each other laying on the ground. One by one they got up and slowly started walking to one of the three metal benches that were each under a tree. “What happened?” Ava moaned.
“I dunno…” Sage replied. “Sarah, what do you think?” She asked.
“Uhhhh…I-I dunno…maybe we all passed out or somethin’…” Sarah replied quietly.
“Yeah…” Ava and Sage said in quietly in unison. As they all sat there, pondering why they felt the way they did, and what had happened, Sarah checked her phone to see the time. “Hey guys…” she started, “Look at this…”
She pointed to the clock on her phone—it said 2:31 PM. At first the other two were confused. But then it hit them—they had gotten there at 2:30!
At first nobody knew what to say, then Sage broke the silence, “So…” she started, What do you guys think happened?”
“I think we probably passed out…” Ava stated.
“Yeah, probably, but that still doesn’t explain why we passed out, or why time seems to have stopped momentarily…” Sarah replied quietly.
“Or slowed down…” Ava replied.
“What?” Sarah asked, confused.
“Well…” Ava started,” time may have stopped or it could’ve very well just slowed down.”
“Oh, right…” Sarah smiled, “That too!”
“Anyway…” Sage interrupted in the most polite manner possible,” We should get back to the task at hand.”
“What’s that?” Ava asked, confused
“We should first probably try to figure out what happened. Why we passed out, I mean.” Sage answered kindly.
They all sat there in silence for a few minutes until Sarah broke the silence, “Well, we could all try to think back to what might’ve caused this.”
“What do you mean?” Sage and Ava both inquired.
“Well, remember how we went to that lab a few days ago for a school field trip?”
“Yeah…”
“Remember how we snuck into that room and that…thing…happened?”
All three girls blushed with embarrassment and looked away as they thought of the trouble they could’ve gotten in. Soon after they had gotten out of the room and rejoined their class, they had all agreed that they would never talk about it ever again, and most certainly never tell anyone what had happened or what they had done.
“…Yeah…” they both replied sheepishly.
“Well, maybe that could have something to do with it…” Sarah finished.
“Maybe…” they both replied, now deep in thought.
As they were all deep in thought, a thought crossed their minds—“what if they had been exposed to some radioactive chemicals and had gained superpowers from them?”
“No...that’s silly...” Sage thought, “There must be some other reason for what’s going on...I just have to figure out what.”
“What if we—no, that’s not it...” Ava thought to herself, very deep in thought.
“Hmm...it’s entirely possible that “the incident” could’ve caused this...” Sarah pondered, “ I mean, we did mess around with a bunch of science equipment and stuff...but would that explain why we’ve been passing out so much?”
As they sat there, caught up in their thoughts, they sat there in silence, not even noticing a white car pulling up a few feet behind them.
