“But why is the light of the rain goddess haunted by the darkness? What in the world happened to her!” The moon goddess wore a painful expression.
Head lowered slowly and placed down on the fountain, as she rested with her eyes half lidded, seemingly deep in thought. Her fingers circled around in the water mirror, looking at the woman and child.
“To lessen “death” around her, I need to…” The moon goddess stopped midway of speaking and snapped her head upwards. She glanced around her surroundings speedily.
“You.” She spoke harshly, seeing a man walking up towards her from the small path leading to her fountain.
“Moon goddess, I greet you,” the man spoke politely and did a curt bow. Snow white hair glistering in the moonlight accompanied by his fully white cloth.
“Snow god, why are you here?” She glared at him coldly, obviously annoyed by his presence.
“I felt an evil power lurking from your residence, so I came here.” He looked at her with a face that was unreadable and stood still in place.
‘The darkness is leaking from the water mirror,’ she stared back at the mirror, eyes widening, seeing a black fog around the mother and child.
“Is anything amiss, moon goddess?” the voice pipped up dangerously next to her ear, as his intimidating presence loomed over her back.
A chill ran down her spine and she lost all the colours in her face.
Standing up, she rotated and faced him. Anger swooning over her face, “Leave now.”
“Why? Is our loved Moon Goddess hiding anything from us?” A cold expression made its’ way to his features, the face of one who is suspecting someone of evildoers.
“Fine. Stay as you wish, but do not disturb me.” She turned her back against him, once again staring back at the mother and child, listening to their cries echoing in her mind.
“I will now bless this child with the light of the moon.” Her eyes shut down gently, hands put together tightly, as she focused energy on the child. A strong dark blue light mixed with pink colours descended around the moon goddess body. The light pulled her body upwards, making her hover a few feet above ground.
The snow god glanced at her form; The moon goddess’ hair flew around herself as a gust of wind was circling around her figure.
‘Is she giving away all her powers to this child?’ His eyes frowned slightly.
“Snow god, I hate you. But, please make sure this child will be alright.” The moon goddess spoke with a sad smile, pointing her hands towards the water mirror, sending out the energy that she has collected around herself. “This child is her offspring, too precious to die but for some reason. Her light is pulling darkness towards her.”
“I am not sure what will happen to her in the future. I can only bless her with all of my powers and the fate to become the future moon goddess.” The moon goddess energy were still flowing into the water mirror, surrounding the child’s body.
“The Rain goddess left an offspring behind.” The snow god stated silently to himself, watching as all of her powers got drained into the water mirror. As the last bit of her power surged into the mirror, the image on the water’s surface vanished and the moon goddess lost her powers and fell down.
Before she slammed into the ground, he had sped up to caught her in his arms, holding her body close to him and staring down at her face, with a hint of anger in his eyes. “Rest in peace, moon goddess.”

The mother was holding her child tightly, kneeling in front of the moon goddess shrine. Mingzhu’s cries were getting louder and louder. And that was when the mother felt, truly frightened of death. It was as if something evil surrounded their forms, reaching out for her baby. She held Mingzhu even tighter and laid her head gently over her tiny frame, as a shield against the distressed feeling.
Out of nowhere, did she feel a gentle presence touch her body. ‘I will bless Mingzhu with my protection. But as she get of age, she will join the gods’ lands. And watch over the moonlight.’
A beautiful voice echoed throughout her mind, making her body relax and feel peaceful. The cries of Mingzu disappeared, only silence meeting her ears. Different shades of light were going inside of the child’s body.
The mother smiled and sobbed into her hands, “Thank you. Thank you so much, Moon Goddess”
The child was smiling gently into the warm light surrounding her form.
And this is how the story of Mingzhu, a child blessed by the moon goddess and haunted by the darkness comes to life.
