I like that you understood his non-English speech as actual speech and communication. A lot of people think autistic behaviours are nonsense disorder symptoms. But our behaviours and ways of being all are a type of communication when you boil it down.
Stimming for example (rocking, clapping, repeating things) is non-verbal communication. Just like someone nodding, shaking their fist or giving a thumbs up. We wouldn't put someone in therapy for clapping when happy but we try to force autistic kids to not do their own non-verbal communication. All while saying we don't communicate enough!!!
“Life with Lee” is a graphic novel memoir book about my early life growing up with my autistic little brother.
Having a family member with a disability in your life can be overwhelming, stressful and difficult to say the least. But That doesn't mean there isn't a funny side to autism you don't hear about as much as you should. Which is what this ongoing, true comic story memoir of my life is all about and what I want to share with you.
