I felt my hand tighten as I hit the table with my hand, creating a small crack.
“Hey! Cloe, it’s not your fault. We planned leaving school, but no one thought about the trip coming to school would be so dangerous.” Clare said trying to calm me down across the table.
“Damn it!” I looked at the empty seat next to me, “She’s only eight and they took her and two other elementary students with a middle school student. When I find who took them, I won’t hold back.”
“Calm down. The principle today put out to the whole student body that all clubs were canceled, and no one can go to school or from school without a teacher.”
I glanced out the window to see the trees moving in the wind, “Mr. Vince says he will walk you all back to the dorms in a few minutes.”
“What about you?” Clare asked.
“Ill be walking back with Mr. Rogers, our Chemistry teacher. He needed help moving a few boxes to the storage behind the school house. He and I only must make one trip, so no point in any of you staying. It could just make it more difficult to fight anyone else if we do get attacked if there is a third person to worry about.” I said coldly.
“But…”
I glared at Clare who stood up with Tim and Tom. I wasn’t in the mood for Clare to try and debate with me. Amy and Ben were not allowed to stay after school since they were just middle school students. It would just be a bigger risk for the rest of us. The teachers barely let us stay as high school students. We all walked out of the room but split ways at the end of the hall. They turned right to go to Mr. Vince’s office while I turned left to go to Mr. Roger’s office.
I walked down the hall till I noticed Mr. Roger’s door was cracked with the lights off. I hesitated for a moment and slowly creaked open the door. A powerful smell hit my nose causing me to crinkle it, “Mr. Roger’s?” I slowly opened it more to see a figure in the back of the room. I leaned over and clicked the light switch on and heard a crash as glass shattered on the floor.
“Oh my!” I watched as Mr. Rogers quickly leaned down and began to pick up the mess. A huge sigh of relief hit me.
“You scared me half to death. What is that awful smell and why were the lights out?”
He quickly stood up and readjusted his glasses on his nose, “Cloe! You arrived to help. Good. Good. We need to get these boxes of chemicals to the shed in the back before anymore begin to leak. You see, I poked myself on that deadly plant I dropped, and it paralyzed me. The janitor came through and turned the lights off on me then and I was unable to say anything.”
“You really shouldn’t have plants in the room that can paralyze student’s sir. That seems dangerous. Especially with what is going on with people going missing recently.”
“Ah, it is.” He quickly put on gloves and picked up the plant and put it in one of the boxes, “That is why we are taking these things outside in the shed for now. They won’t be happy about having to stay inside a dusty shed but, principle demanded I either burn them or store them.”
“I see.”
“Don’t worry, I am going to be the one carrying the plants. You are just going to carry though two boxes of chemicals. Please don’t spill anymore then what has already. If the wrong one’s mix, it can great a toxin that can actually kill us.”
I shook my head. This was no surprise that Mr. Rogers would have any of this. At least once a month he was getting in trouble for showing off something dangerous to students. He was a Green Match user and a very powerful one. He mixed chemicals with his plants, making them deadly weapons sometimes without him meaning to make them.
I picked up the boxes and followed him outside to the back of the school. He sat down his boxes and I sat down mine.
“You have been a real-life saver. After I unlock this, we can head back to the dorms and call it a day. He put his hand in his pocket and dug around and then dug his hand in the other pocket, “Have to be kidding me…” He mumbled as he patted his top pockets on his shirt.
“Forget the shed keys?” I sighed.
“I did not forget. I simple just dropped them in the class room.”
“Ill run and get them. It’ll be faster this way.” I quickly bolted back in the school and back to the chemistry room. It still reeked, and I covered my nose with my hand. I looked and saw the keys laying in the back of the class room. I picked them up and wiped them off on my pants. “When was the last time he cleaned his keys?” I thought. I looked down and noticed we had missed a few glass pieces. I quickly picked up the pieces we missed and threw them in the trash. I looked at my hands that now reeked of whatever was in the vile. I sighed, “I do not miss taking this class with him.” I walked out of the class room and noticed the hallway lights now were dimmed for the night. The light outside was brighter and light up some of the hallways still. I glanced outside the window before the door. I noticed Mr. Rogers on the ground. I quickly burst out the door towards him.
“Mr. Rogers, what happened?” I knelled next to him and checked his pulse, “Still breathing. I noticed his eyes were still open and none of his body moved an inch. I then glanced up to see one of the boxes was open. “I’m so sorry.” I quickly pulled and hid behind Mr. Rogers as two thorns shot at me. They hit Mr. Rogers in the chest, “Again sorry.” I glanced around to see no one around, “Is this just his stupid experiment.” I looked at the plant and it bust into flames. I looked around one more time and then leaned him down. I removed the thorns that were shot at him and then two more from his back which I assumed was what made him fall to the ground in the first place. “What made them get aggressive though?”
I got up and walk and over to the shed. I unlocked it and swung open the doors. Dust came out and I coughed a few times as I turned back to the boxes. “These paralyze thorns better not last long or ill have to carry you inside and sleep at the school tonight.” I whined. I picked up both chemical boxes and put them in the very back. I walked back out to see I had burnt everything in the one box with the plant. I tensed up and glanced over at Mr. Rogers who was still unable to move, “He would kill me, if he knew I did this. I picked up both boxes and stored them in the shed also. I shut the shed doors and locked it back up.
“Plants are very unique things I must say.” I turned around to see a strange figure but seemed to be completely blurring to me. It stood next to Mr. Rogers, “He is a truly strong Green Match user. I am happy he created something that even he can’t handle. He will fetch a mighty price.”
“Don’t go near him!” I yelled in angry as my fist tighten, “You. What have you done with the others you have taken?”
“Who?”
“Don’t screw with me!” Suddenly roots wrapped around the figure.
“Ah. I see by your patch you are just like the little girl we got. Black with a cute little star. I am guessing you two knew one another? Such a pity.”
“Sasha…Where is she or I’ll crush every bone in your body.” I watched as the vines climbed up the figures body but, the figure was showing no fear.
“I have no idea. She sold very quickly for being so young and having some much potential.”
The vines quickly tightened around the figure causing it to gasp for air and the suddenly vanished from my sight. The vines dropped, and I glanced around.
“You have lots of potential also I see. I quickly turned to see the figure with something in their hands. It was one of Mr. Roger’s plants. “I thought I destroyed all of the plants in the box?” Before I could react, the plant shot a few thorns into my shoulder. Within seconds I felt my whole body go numb and I could no longer move. My eyes though, were still fully open and aware of the blurry figure.
“Yes. I got two more in the back of the school. Both paralyzed for an unknown time but I am about to give them both sedatives to put them out for a while. I felt vulnerable as the figure got off what I assumed to be a phone and walked towards me. “Now don’t worry. If you cooperate, there will be issues. If you start to cause issues, well. You don’t want to know.” I began to clinch my teeth tighter, trying to think how I could fight back. I watched the figure pull out something from his pocket and flick it a few times, “This will sting for only a few seconds. I want to apologies for this though and want to reassure you, you will be the last one taken for a while, since you and him will be the high items of the auction and will draw attention for sure.” Fear began to overcome me as he spoke.
“Sasha felt this fear and I wasn’t there for her.” I felt my fingers tingle for a second, “I won’t lose so easily.” I finally seemed to mumble.
“Oh, are you still able to move? Even after that toxin?” The figure stopped and laughed.
I felt my hand close into a fist and vines suddenly shot up blocking the figure. I used all my strength and felt my legs finally begin to move again. I quickly ran towards Mr. Rogers. I shook him and noticed he was still paralyzed from the plant. I stood up and focused on Mr. Rogers. I closed my eyes and opened them to show just blackness in them. Mr. Rogers began to lift up in the air and I ran towards the school. I noticed the school become fuzzier though as I got closer. I rubbed my eyes and finally noticed I couldn’t make out the door. I turned around to see the figure had vanished.
“Your very strong but, sadly this is where all the fun needs to stop. I am on a time crunch and need to leave with the cargo now.” I turned back around to see the figure still blurry. I tried to move backwards but, the figure lunged towards me, stabbing something into my chest. I stumbled backwards and watched Mr. Rogers drop to the ground.
“What did you…” I pulled out a medical needle. I bit my lip as I felt my body feel heavy. I raised my hand slowly and electricity started to spark from it, “I won’t lose…” I collapsed finally to my knees. I could feel tears run down my cheeks, as I began to realize my fate that laid ahead.
