Having made the back of the truck nicely coated with a couple of blankets (of course after we had cleaned it), it was actually nice sitting here. Hazel was all patched up now, sleeping along with a very tired Mauve. I kinda wanna sleep too, but it's like I'm too tired to sleep. Well, it is quite noisy so its surprising those two can sleep. I simply lay down and look up at the sky, watching as the clouds fly by. Wafts of different smells emanating from all sorts of shops we drive by. Specifically the bakeries catch the attention of me. Hazel wakes up. Sits up like as if she had just had a nightmare, but regrets, as the slash in her side sends jolts through the body. I scoot over a bit.
“Are you… ok?”
“Hell no. Where are we?” she says, obviously confused by waking up in the back of a truck.
“Well. We are.. uhm.. kinda on our way to safety? according to Liz, I mean”
“Liz?”
“One of the two contrasts I was talking about this morning”
“Ah…”
Laying down I guess she fell asleep again. I’d have liked to talk more, but its nice knowing she’s okay at least. Mauve will probably scold her, but be happy that shes still okay. I wonder how Ethan and Nathan are doing. Liz would surely be happy to know if her little crush is still alive. Though it gets quite tiring doing that sight all the time. All I manage to do is close my eyes.
Just for a bit…… As the truck makes a pretty abrupt stop, causing Mauve and Hazel to roll into each other hitting their heads together and me hitting the side of the truck lad. The front door opens and gets smacked shut.
“Guys… we got a problem” Liz says as she hurries up to the side and peeks over, barely tall enough since it’s a truck after all.
“Oww….. yeah, the problem is the sudden stop…”
“Nonono, much worse. They’ve set up barriers on the outskirts of town to try catch us since we are apparently ‘terrorists’ now”
“We gotta go now, on foot. Straight west through that forest should be the general direction of the train station.”
“Hazel can barely walk! how are we supposed to walk?”
“and how are we supposed to drive that through a dense forest..”
“I don’t know!”
“Hey... I can just carry her..”
Mauve says a bit irritated, probably by us wasting time.
“But won’t that be too.. uh... heavy for you?”
“HEY! IM NOT HEAVY”
“no... I can carry her to the forest. As soon as we are there she can surely walk by herself. Lots of shade..”
Mauve says, hinting to Hazel as to climb up on his back.
“Oh.. Yeah.. Liz and I will carry the stuff then.”
“Onwards to victory!”
Hazel yells, whilst hitching a piggyback ride, but regretting her loud tone as her side still hurts.
“Jeez, how fast do slashes heal. Please say fast, cause this is completely ruining my mood!”
“I’d say a weeks time. Still need bandages after that, but less irritating.”
Liz says, going in the direction I guess is west. Alright. Let’s go.
My phone vibrates. Odd, who’d call now?
Taking the call I hear a very familiar voice shout.
“MAY ARE YOU GUYS ALL RIGHT?!”
I distance the phone from my ear, not wanting to go deaf so young.
“Yeah?”
“HOLYSHITWHATWASALLTHATSHITABOUTWHOWASTHATWH---”
I hang up, sighing. Then I proceed to call again.
“Hello, am I talking someone who can speak English or a panicked weirdo?”
“Uh.. Sorry. I’m just happy to hear you are good.
“It’s good to know you are fine too, Nathan.”
“Strawberry head here has taken a blow. Called in a favour and we are already on the other side of the police barricades. That smuggler I promised to shut down yeah? Well sorry, but hey it was the right choice obviously.”
“Great. Let us meet on the other side then. Dambrigde Station”
“Got ya, that's a long way from New Kingsfort.”
“Well, your ass better be there cause I’m still gonna scold you for not shutting down the smuggler as I requested…”
“Come on! Isn’t me, being all fine and well, the most im---”
Aaaaaand end call. The weird pain in my chest from earlier feels like as if it got carried out along with air I breathed.
