Inside of a small apartment, a woman wakes up to the sound of a loud alarm clock. She presses a button, and the sound stops as she forces herself out of bed. She moves over to the bathroom and grabs her toothbrush. As her eyes open, she looks at herself and slowly realizes the day.
“Today’s the day!” She yells out suddenly awake. “Today I’ll get assigned a Brawler team, I must make sure I’m on time today no matter what.”
She quickly finishes in the bathroom and rushes back into her room. Quickly changing and putting on a suit she checks herself in the mirror as she checks her hair and smiles.
“Alright, today for sure. I’ll defiantly pull this off and my team will defiantly pull through this year!” She says excitedly.
Meanwhile, off out sea, a small boat travels through the water towards New York City as Kenji stands on the deck in amazement. Dina stands behind him as the pair stare off at the city in the sunrise.
“This is amazing,” Kenji says. “I’ve never seen a city this huge before.”
“Yup kid. When it comes to Kaiju Brawling in the west, New York is the city you want to be.” Toshiro says. “Unfortunately, the city is a little cramped for such big fellas, so we gotta get to the Association and make them put us up.”
“They’ll let us stay for free?” Kenji asks.
“Not for free, we’ll need to sign up with them and we’ll need to make sure we try our best for the upcoming matches.”
Kenji grins. “No worries, there’s no way we’re going to have any trouble while we’re here.”
“You say that, but you always seem to draw up more and more trouble,” Dian says. “From here on your going to be sequestered into the room and only allowed outside for matches.”
“Oh, come on, that’s no fun. This is New York, after all, the western Kaiju capital!” Kenji yells out. “There are so many spots I have to check out from previous battles!”
“Calm down,” Toshiro says. “First, we’ll stop by registration and then we’ll get a pen for Repigigas, otherwise there’ll be a giant lizard stomping around New York, and I think they’ve grown tired of that.”
“Right!” Kenji yells as he stares over the edge. “You hear that Repi, it’s best you stay out of sight, for now, we’ll call you when it’s safe to come out.”
Repi’s head emerges from the water and it stares up at Kenji nodding as it dives back into the water’s depths.
A while later the woman stands in a lobby with a large grin on her face. As the woman at the desk types away she continues to smile unable to contain her own excitement.
“So, state your name again?”
“Oriana Sumre. Twenty years old…”
“I don’t want your life story just your first and last name.” She says dryly. “Anyway, if there are enough you’ll be assigned a team and reporting their activities to the Association.”
“Right,” Oriana says happily. “I can’t wait, I’ve been wanting to work with a Kaiju team since forever!”
“You and everyone else.” The receptionist says disinterestedly. “Well this year we only have a handful of applicants so hopefully you can get assigned a team.”
“What?” She asks concerned.
“There are fewer applicants every year, so we have less and less need of Association Agents in dealing with them.” She says coldly. “If you're lucky you’ll be assigned a team, if not well, hopefully, you’re not too attached to this career path.”
She lowers her head. “Oh, come on, I just got here.” She says sadly.
“Yeah well, that’s the job market. If you're lucky, there will be some promising candidates this year.” She says looking through her computer. “Oh wait…”
“What!?” Oriana yells leaping over the desk. “Come on tell me.”
“Get off, we have a latecomer.” She says pushing her away. “If you hurry down to the reception area, you could meet with them.”
Oriana takes off rushing at her top speed towards the hallway and the elevators. “Thank you!” She yells out.
“But maybe an assignment like this might be too much for such a newbie, but we’ll find out.” She says disinterestedly.
In the lobby, Toshiro hands out two cards to Dian and Kenji with a curious smirk. He looks through the crowds and notices a figure in the distance as his grin widens. Kenji stares around looking at everyone as they pass around them with Dian rubbing her bracelet nervously.
“Dad, can we hurry up here? You know crowds make me uncomfortable.” Dian says.
“Oh right. I was just keeping an eye out for someone.” Toshiro says happily. “Now do you to remember where the hotel is?”
“Yup!” Kenji yells out. “This entire place is amazing, I can’t believe a city like this is even real.”
Dian stares at him. “Come on Kenji, don’t be an idiot.”
“Calm down you two,” Toshiro says. “Now let’s go to the desk.”
“But didn’t we just leave?” Kenji asks.
Dian lifts up. “An Agent!”
“Right.”
“What?”
“An Agent of the Brawler Association is always a team member of the Kaiju Team. They report team activities and such to the Association to make sure that the Kaiju are well cared for and that no one is abusing them.” Dian says.
Toshiro smirks. “That’s not the only thing they do, but we’ll talk about that stuff once we’re assigned an Agent.”
“Okay, whatever gets us closet to the Kaiju King!” Kenji yells out.
“Alright kids, let’s hit the desk.”
The trio move towards the desk as the receptionist types searching through her files. As she searches Oriana walks off of the elevator looking out towards the group.
“Well, we do have one available Agent who’d be more than happy to work with you.” The receptionist says.
“Oh, please give me a cute girl will ya?” Toshiro asks.
“Please sir, calm down.” She says disinterestedly. “Oh, speaking of the Agent, here she is.”
Oriana walks up to the group and smiles. “My name is Oriana Sumre, I am pleased to be working with you.”
Toshiro stares at her. “Hey are you single?” he asks.
“Dad!” Dian yells out. “Please don’t do that!”
“It’s a perfectly valid question. It’s good to know these kinds of things when you’ll be working closely with someone.” He with an air of seriousness.
Kenji stares up at him. “Of course, Boss, you must be right!”
“Come on, please take this seriously,” Oriana says trying to keep a serious demeanor. “Anyway, we need to stay serious because the first matches will start soon.”
“What!?” Dian and Kenji yell out.
“Why now?” Dian questions. “Did we leave too late?”
Toshiro smirks. “Oh well, kids let’s head back to the pen. We’ve got to get ready for our match.”
“We didn’t even research our opponent. Dad how are we supposed to win if we don’t know what we’re getting into.” Dian says shaking.
Kenji rushes up to her side. “Come on. Remember we talked about this a little spontaneous action never hurt anyone.”
“Fine, we’ll just have to deal,” Dian says as she glances at Oriana. “Do you have any idea about who we’ll be fighting?”
Oriana shakes her head. “No. I have no idea.”
“Well, you're useless for right now,” Dian says walking away. “Let’s go to Repigigas, he should be ready for a battle.”
“Wait, how do you know? Normally it’d take a day for a Kaiju to be battle ready especially after a long journey.” Oriana says.
“Well just look at his partner,” Dian says.
Oriana turns towards Kenji who’s barely containing himself with the excitement almost shaking with pure enthusiasm. Oriana turns towards Dian still somewhat confused as Dian walks away with Kenji following behind her.
“Um…” Oriana says.
“These two have a special bond when this one’s like that it means the other must have a similar feeling.” She says walking away. “So, let’s get going before Repi breaks his pen.”
Oriana chases after the pair with a concerned look on her face. “Are you sure about this, I’d rather not see any Kaiju abuse on my first day.”
“Oh, we’re sure,” Kenji says happily. “Repi’s ready, and together we’re going to win this thing.”
Oriana stares at him. “Alright, we’ll let’s get going then.”
“Everything should be ready for us at the pen, from there we’ll get ready before it’s our turn,” Dian says.
“Where’d your dad go?” Oriana asks.
“Boss has other tasks to take care of, he’s leaving the match to us,” Kenji says happily. “Boss has a lot of faith in the three of us and we’re ready for this.”
“Okay, let’s do this then,” Oriana says excitedly.
