Jay starts coughing, “You still wi’ that shit?” Asked Cedrique, “It’s asthma Ced what d’you mean still wid it?” replied Jay.
“Anyway, how’s the fam? Any madness lately?” asked Cedrique, Jay shakes his head and says everything’s going fine. “What’s with your threads anyway? You look like a fuckin’ gimp.” Cedrique said with a disgusted look, “We’re fuckin’ broke Ced, fuck o-” Said Jay with an angry tone, before Cedrique grabs him by the shirt and slams him into the wall.
“You gunna ‘ave a little respect for me yeah? I’ve been gone for two years but I’m still me Jay…” he said seriously, “How the fuck was I supposed to know you were broke? He’s been dead for time I thought you’d have sorted it by now…”
Jay removes Cedriques hands from his shirt and walks off, “Just eat the fucking sausage roll, I used all I had for that.”
Cedrique looks at the wrapped up roll in his hand and shakes his head, catching up to Jay “Here…” he said, gesturing to give the roll back to his cousin.
“Fuckin’ take it then!” He shouts, Jay reluctantly reaches over and takes it. “Give it your sis, tell her it’s from me.” Jay nods and puts it back into his bag.
*bzzzt* *bzzzt* Cedrique fetches his phone and unlocks it to see the message,
“Yo, Jay. I’m gunna go see some o’ my boys in Trinity, you good?” Jay looks over and nods, Cedrique offers out his fist, “We’ll catch up later fam, and don’t worry about money, I’ll sort it.” He said. Jay looks at him with scepticism and touches fist,
“Yeah just lemme know when you’re down, not like I’m busy.” Jay makes his way home, making sure to collect the shopping his mum asked for while he was out. “Why do we even need all this shit…” he thinks to himself as he rummages through the union jack plastic bag, putting each thing in the various cupboards and draws as he goes.
The morning sun pierces the gap between the curtains, straight onto Jays bust up face, waking him. His senses quickly come to as he picks up the scent of his mums’ special breakfast, he jumps out of bed and throws on whatever he can get his hands on.
Rushing down the stairs just as his mum calls his name,
“Oh you’re up already, here, I made your favourite!” she said while showing him the plate of sweet potato pancakes with fried bananas layered on top, resembling a flower. Jay smiles and says thanks, before taking the plate and walking into the living room. His sister is already in there, half way through hers with a mouth full, she looks over at him and smiles.
