It was middle of the year 2100. Exactly on New Years of that year the long feared Yellowstone Supervolcano exploded.
No humans made it out alive.
Through the whole 100 years the human kind had, every scientist tried to stop the disaster. It had the potential to wipe out the entire race and restart the world over.
Nothing ever worked.
Somewhere around 2060, all the efforts stopped. The volcano had started to wake. If they were to do anything about it like the past years, it was sure to erupt before its date. And the human kind still wanted to do some things to at least leave something on the planet. Which could later bring new humans onto the earth as the hell subsides.
The first robots appeared as soon as 2020. After years of testing, the first humanoid robot came out. It's name was Wesley. Wesley was a factory worker, made to work alongside a machine. Most of the time, he worked in maintenance and quality checking.
After the first Wesley launched and proved to be a big success, a company bought the blueprints. Soon a mass production of the line began.
The company's name was 'Diamond Works'.
Wesley was a robot of the average human height, disguised as the average white male. The first Wesley didn't have any hair at all. But when Diamond Works took over the blueprints they added short hair to the robot. Made from thin plastic, the hair used to bring more of a human feel to the robot.
Silicone skin covered Wesley from head to toe. But only his palms and fingers missed silicone skin. Hands were very difficult to make as all hands were unique and Diamond Works didn't want to use a human's hand print.
Wesley's eyes were two glass balls secured by a tight fit in his endoskeleton. Wires protruded from their inside where stood microscopic cameras. Blue-purple colored eyes were the ones of Wesley. They differentiated him from humans along with his robotic palms.
Later lines of Wesley also obtained a stamp of the company. A green diamond shaped imprint between their temples.
The green imprint was later taken as an universal sign. An universal sign for factory worker robots of Diamond Works.
Ameli was an another example of a Diamond Works robot. She was an Asian robot the average human size. She worked alongside machines in the textile industry.
The introduction of robots was a success and erased the use of human labor in factories.
Robots came in all genders and races. The robotics industry bloomed and many other companies rose from Diamond Works.
Every company later on had specialized itself in a kind of robot.
'Agraculta' specialized in robots working on farms or the food industry. (at most meat, eggs and animal products)
'Glazby' was responsible for the rise of robot musicians and idols. Their robots were complex and so only one unique robot released each line. The robots made their own music and attracted fans from all over the world.
'Sweet Pleasures' was the most controversial of all. A company making 'adult robots' to star in adult movies and work in clubs.
There were many more companies, but these were best known.
Robots were the only hope for the human kind. And humans decided to give the robots all their characteristics. By 2080, people have programmed robots out of their reach. Robots expressed emotion and ran on batteries that lasted centuries upon centuries. Humans respected the robots as human beings. Only a minority of them fought against the robots, thinking they are not trustworthy.
In the last years of human life, humans entrusted robots with reproductive organs and cells. Tasked revive the human race when the ash cloud fades and the new times begin.
The robots are durable as they don't need food, water or heat to survive. They at most need their battery, made to endure for centuries on end.
During the last ten years of humans, all reproductive behavior stopped in a flash. Everyone knew they were to perish soon and bringing new humans to life was pointless. By their end, the youngest human was fifteen years old. Everyone else was twenty or over, spending their last years in the embrace of their robots.
The explosion was a quick end to anyone near it, they were flash-burned to death.
Death was slow and painful to those living away from the volcano. The ashes scattered over the sky and cold, ruthless winter ruled the land. People lost their remaining heating. The majority of tunnels, factories and generators shutting off after the explosion.
Robots lucky to be out of the explosion zone cared for their masters as long as possible before their death.
The robots stayed with their dead masters for quite some time. They didn't want to let go and free themselves, as the life they lived was beyond beautiful. But a majority left after a while. They finally realized what their job was to do now, seeing the human kind eradicated.
Now it is the year 2107, seven years have passed and most of the robots are roaming. They are trying to find an alpha group to wait out the ashes to clear out and reproduce as tasked to. The sky is getting clearer every year. At the moment, there are small holes in the smoky layer showing the blue skies above. But as the robots have concluded, this is still not the ideal temperature for a human child to survive. Any running water is still frozen in place. And a layer of ice tends to cover the robots'skin if standing still in a long time.
The world is getting better by year, and in a hundred years, or less, the human kind might start climbing back up. Of course, this means climbing back to the discovery of fire. But robots have swore to be there for them and help them each step of the way. They will shape them into the owners they once had. Passionate, caring and good. So to the robots and each of their kind.
