“So, what? Ya’ll weren’t called Descendants back then?” Celeste leaned against the back of her chair as Laini and Nebedtka paused their story. Everyone in the room was engrossed with what they were saying and it was interesting to hear of things that happened so long ago.
“I later learned that what we were in terms of a creature was still relatively new in the grand scheme of things. The Greek; he was only one of five. The others were the progenitor Enoch, an Assyrian woman who I never met and the others...I knew nothing about them. Enoch wouldn’t tell us anything,” Laini replied.
“You knew Enoch?” Celeste tilted forward. Now THAT was fascinating.
“I met him several times before he left. Gabriel said he had another task and the angels took him,” Laini said with a nod.
“Still...that must’ve been somethin’,” Celeste actually smiled and gave Atriel an approving look. A noise from inside the stone room caught their attention and a voice could be heard in the space.
“Where the hell IS everyone?!” he asked a figure emerged in the library door. A handsome but sneering Native man tilted his head and put a hand on his hip as he looked down the length of the table at the crowd. “Well...if it isn’t our dearest goddess Laini…”
He stopped and cocked an eyebrow.
“Is there trouble?” he asked. Celeste giggled and moved a chair away from the table and encouraged him to sit. When more of him came into view, Celeste smiled wider very nearly neglecting everyone else at the table. He was indeed a very attractive native man but his clothes were out of place on his figure. He, too, was a child of the American plains. Laini and the others watched him slink a little closer to the table and leaned over Celeste.
“Eháŋni wičhówoyake…” she said to him as he pressed his lips against her cheek but stopped short of sitting to look at Laini.
“Oh! I love stories...please, don’t stop on my account,” he mused and turned back to Celeste with a wide smirk, fangs barely visible. She moved a strand of his hair behind his shoulder and she just sighed and shook her head. “And I am assuming it is an interesting story with such an esteemed crowd…”
“I really wish you’d stop with the feigned respect, Ohanzee...truly,” Mihr rolled his eyes.
“But I’m always so happy to see you, Mihr! You’re my favorite!” He sneered wider and they all rolled their eyes except for Celeste and Atriel. She was trying not to laugh. Atriel glared as if he were somehow slighted by the comment. Celeste leaned into him.
“She’s telling us about her life in Egypt,” she remarked and Ohanzee’s eyes went wide.
“Really? I actually went through Egypt while I was chasing the Celt. Amazing place…” he sunk into his chair and glared at Laini and Nebedtka. “But there is a lot that desert is hiding isn’t there?”
Laini actually smirked.
He wasn’t wrong.
“Please...continue,” Ohanzee smiled.
