Class had ended at 8:30, with the teacher calling out the last of the math problems to her students before they left. I walked out of the classrooom and down to my locker after saying goodbye to Connor. Connor is what my definition of popular would be, swarmed with people interested in him. The only reason he's popular, on a grand high scale is because not only is Connor from Morrow, Georgia, but also he's homeschooled.
I grab out of my locker materials for second period and shut the locker. I made my way through the crowd of kids and make it safely to my seat in class.
When class started, nothing out the ordinary happened. Sure, there were a few kids who everyday piss off someone in the class, not usually me, and sure enough it happened again today.
However, when class started they were caught, as usual, and got a warning before the teacher started the lesson. Halfway through the lesson, over the P.A system, I was called to go into the lobby.
"Ok Yuri," my teacher started. "You'll be gone for a while so make sure you do the exercise when you go home."
"Sure." I said. Without a doubt, I knew I wouldn't do the exercises, only the homework.
I grabbed my binder and materials, putting them in my locker before heading to the lobby. When I got there, I spotted Connor underneath the banner, alone.
Connor spoke first. "Well hello fellow homosapian."
"Why am I here?" I asked. I walked towards Connor, through the balloons and streamers.
"You, my dear friend," Connor said, walking over to me and pointing at me. "You will give me a tour of the school and then we'll ditch school to grab a McBurgerKing shake to go." He paused. "You guys do have a McBurgerKing nearby, right?"
I chuckled before nodding. "Yes. Thankfully, it's in walking distance from here, but it's much faster to go in a vehicle."
Connor smiled. "Well than, off we go!" He started to tug my arm. "Let's start over here"
Connor points towards the art wing, which is always decked out in colors, not only the school's. It is a rainbow. Plain and simple.
"Okay. Let's go through the rainbow." I say. Connor pulls ahead, only a few feet, and we go underneath the rainbow arch in front of the doors and into all the color wonder.
Connor, at first, didn't say a thing about the color along the walls. He didn't notice the walls until he tried to look at the art on the walls.
"Hey Yuri," Connor said, stopping in his tracks and turning to face me. "Why is there paint and marker on the wall?"
"Well," I started. "The art program actually doesn't care if there is art on the walls, more or less any destruction to school property." I looked at Connor. "Say, before we leave, you wanna draw on here?"
"Hell yes." Connor said as I chuckled at his response. I told him about all the teachers, along sith classes like band and choir that are here. "The real assholes," I told Connor, "are the ones that call this place gay."
We traveled through the art wing and landed back in the lobby, now going the opposite direction, where the science and English classes are. We traveled through, me pointing out all of the teachers while Connor enthusiastically listened.
We neared the end of the tour of the first floor around 9:50, already moving on to third period.
"Let's go upstairs." I suggested, mainly because it's the last floor we need to go through.
Connor nodded and we headed upstairs, continuing the tour. I pointed out the library, my favorite place to be, and all the rest of the teachers for math and extracurricular activities. We finished the tour around 12:35, after showing Connor the cafeteria and the gym.
"Hey Yuri," Connor says in a singsong voice. "Guess what?"
"We're gonna get some McBurgerKing." I said.
"Yes, yes we are." Connor agreed. "I'm going to get my backpack. You do the same, and we'll meet back here. Okay?"
I nod and go towards my locker, grabbing my backpack and my sister's keys. I headed towards the lobby where Connor was waiting with a green backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Let's go Yuri." Connor says, with a motion of his hand. "Could we drive your car?"
"Actually, I need to stop at home before we go, is that cool?" I asked. I was gonna leave my sister's car at home and take my motorcycle out of the garage.
"I have no complaints." Connor said. We headed out of the parking lot and towards my sister's Honda Civic.
"This is my sister's. She doesn't want me to drive mine to school. That and I'm allowed to park." I said, getting into the driver's seat. Connor does the same and I turn the ignition, putting on our seatbelts and driving off. The radio came on, with even more trashier pop then earlier.
I turned the radio off as Connor speaks. "Do you listen to that? Seriously?"
I pulled out a CD from my side door. "No, I just can't change the radio." I put the CD in and waited until the whirring stopped, and The All-American Rejects began.
Connor smiled as I pulled out of the school's parking lot and we sang along to Dirty Little Secret and Move Along as I traveled to my house. When I got to my house, I sent Ruth a quick text over saying I brought her car home and she needed to walk home before going inside. I opened the locked house with my key, setting Ruth's car keys on her respective hook. I grab mine that are right next to hers and travel down the hallway. I go inside the garage door and open the big door, taking my Triumph Bonneville T100 baby outside.
"Connor, come out!" I said. He came out of the car and stared at my motorcycle.
"Are we gonna ride that?" He asked with a bit of enthusiasm.
"Of course we are." I said before taking two helmets off the shelf and closing the big door. "He's my baby."
Connor nearly couldn't believe me as I climbed on, put the helmet on my head, and motioned him to do the same.
"It's perfectly safe." I assure him.
Connor climbed on, put on the helmet, and held on tight to my waist as I turned and roared the machine to life and rode off. We headed towards the nearest McBurgerKing, which was a few miles from our house. The wind whipped past us as we rode, making it seem better than it should.
When we finally reached McBurgerKing, I turned to Connor after parking into a pretty vacant parking lot.
"Let's go inside." I say, taking off my helmet and standing up. I took my key out of the ignition and waited for Connor to stand.
"It would be better than going through the drive-thru." Connor said, standing up and taking off his helmet.
