“What this?” Delmar looked suspicious at the phone she had placed in his hand.
“You know what a phone is, don't play stupid.” Radiation answered with a smile.
“I don't want any human possessions." He tried to give it back but Radiation forced it back into his hands.
“This is so we can reach you when we'll need you again. Take it, it’s the condition for letting you go back to the forest.” He took the phone and put it in his pocket.
“Alright…”
“And Delmar,” she put a hand on his shoulder. “Stay out of trouble, will you?”
“Yes."
“And stay close to New Devantos.”
“Pff, you're starting to sound like you're my mother.” He gave her a smile.
“I just don't want to lose my only psychic agent.” She smiled back. “Now take care, both of you. And thanks for the help." She gave him a hug and ruffled the fur on Angis head. Gravity gave him a firm hug as well.
“See you, brother.” Neutron patted him on his shoulder. “It was nice having some other company than that dumb old badger. I guess I'll miss you. And take good care of your personal stalker.” he said smiling referring to Angi.
“I'll definitely won't miss you, jerk. And I will.” Delmar said and returned the smile. Neutron laughed.
They left the city and headed back north into the big wilderness area the shifter society kept sacred from human impact. They walked slowly enjoying the chilly autumn day. The sun shined and birds were flying in big formations to the southern parts of the world, towards the warmer regions. When they got to his small hovel he stored away his clothes and shifted back into his wolf form. He also left the phone Radiation had given him in there.
“I guess we'll stay around here and check the phone once a day if they want something.” He stretched out and buried his toes in the dirt, it felt so good to feel the forest ground under his paws again.
“Now what?” Angi asked.
“I don't know.” he said happily.
They hunted for food and played around. Delmar showed Angi lots of different ways he could use his psychic abilities to hunt rabbits, scaring them to death and making them so calm he could just walk straight up to them and pluck them from the ground. He truly enjoyed being alone with her and being a wolf again. At the evening they climbed one of the hills where they got a view back at the city.
“How long will you say with me?” he asked.
”As long as you're a threat towards my pack.”
“I'm never going to stop being a threat.” he smiled sinister.
“Then I guess I'll never leave" she rested her head against his shoulder. He put his head on top of hers.
“Good."
The sun slowly disappeared behind the mountains casting its last rays of light on the top of the skyscrapers at New Devantos.
“I usually wander to the mountains this time of year.” Angi said dreaming.
“Let’s go there together when this is all over.”

The days passed by. He was very content and happy. Sometimes Radiation called and asked for details about Black Hole. Their meetings seemed to drag on forever. It also seemed like the black shifters had become more careful and hard to find so she had no spying missions for him either. At the days he and Angi just played around finding their own adventures. But at the nights he was starting to get haunted by nightmares. Pictures of the jackal’s weird and twisted mind appeared as soon as he closed his eyes and tried to sleep. He had three specific nightmares constantly coming back. One of Black Holes grim reaper demon form consuming the world in a new demon war, one of him being sucked in and trapped inside of the jackals mind leaving his own body empty and dead behind and finally one of the big dark shadow he had seen in there. That was the most unsettling nightmare. The shadow creature never did anything except slowly reaching out a hand towards him. He always woke up cold sweated, trembling and feeling ill. He hadn’t been afraid of the jackal at first but that was before he had looked into his mind. Gravity hadn't been joking about calling him the definition of destruction. But it wasn't only his powers that scared him, it was the way his memories had been acting, they seemed weird and unlike any other person's memories he had ever seen. There was also something bigger, something he couldn't put his finger on. He tried to keep it all secret from Angi pretending everything was fine. She was a heavy sleeper and usually didn’t wake up when he did. In the mornings he woke up several hours before her so he got plenty of time to calm down and get in a better mood again before she woke up to see something was wrong. Some nights he lied awake and refused to fall asleep afraid of where the dream might take him.
Tonight was no exception, he woke up cold sweating and panting. The nightmares were getting more frequent. He had thought they would go away after a while but how long had it been since they left the city? Two weeks? Three weeks? He was starting to lose count of the days. At least he had Angi there, it was always comforting waking up to find her lying close beside him. He buried his face in her fur, she smelled like the mountain air. He could stay here forever as long as she was there too.
“Don’t leave me" he whispered, “don't ever leave me" he closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep again but as soon as he closed them he saw the fuzzy images from the jackal’s memories again. He opened them afraid of what he might see. He tried to move even closer to her but she woke up.
“Delmar, what is it? You’re trembling." He just stared hollow at her with his blue eyes glowing the dark. Then he buried his face in her neck fur again.
“I'm so glad you're here with me.” he mumbled into her fur.
“It’s it the jackal you're thinking of?”
He nodded. She moved away a bit so she could see his face again. She smiled and licked him over his nose.
“Don’t worry, Radiation and Gravity will know what to do, now when they know what they're dealing with.” She had never seen him like this, never afraid.
“That jackals mind, it was so weird. I really hope he's not going to use his powers. It would mean the end of this world. Not that I care for the world but I don't want you to go with it. I… I think I love you." He looked unsure at her.
“I like you to weirdo." She snuggled her face into his neck fur this time.
“Don't worry Delmar, everything will be alright, you have done your part now you just have to trust the others will do theirs. Now we'll just wait until they need you again.”
“Yeah, I guess.”
“What do you want to do while we're waiting?”
“I want you… you're in heat and your hormones are driving me crazy" he smiled mocking.
She laughed.
“Oh really? Then I'll guess you'll have to catch me first.” She jumped away in a playful manner. But he pounced right over her pressing her down to the ground.
“Easy" he whispered in her ear.
