"I think I really like him. Like... for real " I said to Nao.
"Wow, shocker " he rolled his eyes and smiled.
"I'm serious! I kind of don't know what to do! " I shook my hands in the air.
"And that's why you called me over so early in the morning? It's Sunday! " he replied and took a seat next to me. I couldn't sleep last night because of obvious reasons and I really needed someone to talk to. I knew Nao since I was basically a baby and I felt comfortable around him. He also knew about my sexuality and he was always there to listen and help me if I needed it. He always acted like this was a burden, but I knew he cared. He's shown it many times.
"Well, it's not early anymore. "
"Not my fault you wanted to play video-games before you tell me what's up. " I called Nao about two hours ago and he almost immediately came over, but I couldn't bring myself to talk about Yoru. It's not like liking someone happened often to me, so these type of conversations still felt awkward.
After some long seconds passed and I didn't reply, Nao stood up.
"Ugh, come on! Will you just tell me what happened? You really got me curious. " he added.
"Okay, okay! Let's just go upstairs first. I don't want my parents to walk into me talking about boys. " Nao nodded and followed me to my room.
"You have to tell your dad someday... " he said and I froze at the last step of the staircase, before I turned to look at him.
"Someday... But you know he's strict. I'm just happy my mom is okay with it." When I first started realizing that I am not straight, I was really confused and my mom probably understood that something was bothering me. One day, she asked me if something happened at school, but I kept saying that everything was fine. She didn't believe me, so she just ended the conversation by saying that I could talk to her about anything. Which is what I did, after a few hours. The rest is history.
Nao sat on my desk chair and I lied in bed.
"This is already looking like a therapy session " he joked and swung around the chair.
"So... I told you I like Yoru, right?" I started talking after I took a deep breath.
"Only every day since you met him. Seriously " he laughed. I didn't mind that he was teasing me. I already knew I had it bad.
"So we went on a date." I said nonchalantly.
"No way! How did you keep this from me?!" he said surprised.
"I didn't know how it'll go! I didn't want to get my hopes up."
"Whatever. So what happened?" he asked and winked his eyebrows. Of course I got embarrassed and blushed. Nao noticed.
"Wait a minute... why are you blushing? Did it go THAT good?" he continued with a smirk.
"Oh my god, stop! We only kissed." I covered my face with my hands and rolled around on the bed. Nao laughed and encouraged me to go on with more details.
"Well, it was pretty simple. We just went out for dinner and a walk."
"Okay. So you went on a date. It went well and you kissed. Then why are you low-key freaking out?" I've told Nao about Yoru, but I left out the fact that he still had't figured out his sexuality. To be honest, it didn't bother me because he seemed comfortable enough to be on a date with me. However, I really wanted this "thing" that we had to work. I wasn't so sure anymore that I could remain "just friends" with him. I explained everything to Nao. He listened carefully and at the end he made me realize that the milk was already spilled. There was no use in trying to pretend like I didn't want more from Yoru.
"The only thing you can do is just be yourself."
"Awh, thanks, dude." I said too early.
"So that he can break up with you before it's too late " Nao added with a smug expression. I knew he was only teasing me, but the desire to change my best friend was really strong at that moment.
"Wow. I have no words " I said laughing.
"I'm joking. Seriously though, you already know that you can't just stay friends anymore. So just go with it. Do what you want. " I nodded and we heard the front door opening. My parents were back. That meant it was time for Nao to leave. They weren't very keen on the idea of me having people over without informing them first.
"I'll go." he said knowingly. I helped him find his phone and he grabbed his bag.
"Oh, and if you want advice on the sexy stuff, just call me!" he added right before he was about to step out of the room.
"Gosh, Nao!" I paused and looked around. "My parents could hear that!" I whispered. "Plus, you're straight " I added.
"Whatever. Your loss" he shrugged and laughed.
"Just go, idiot. Thanks for hearing me out..."
"No problem " he claimed and left.
I was so distracted by the conversation I had with Nao, that I didn't pay any mind to my phone. In fact, I forgot about my phone so much, that I had left it downstairs. I went to retrieve it and then back to my room, after I talked with my parents a little bit.
The first thing that I wanted to do was text Yoru, so I started doing just that. Although before I could hit "send", I noticed that he was already typing. I debated for a moment on whether I should delete what I wrote and wait for him to start the conversation. As proved, it was too late for me because only after a few seconds, I had already received a new message.
