A tiny girl in a flaming orange sundress skidded around the corner of a train station, her sneakers squealing. Seconds later, two men in navy blue suits rounded the corner in pursuit, their shiny shoes slapping on the ground. She dashed in between the legs of a black haired, pale man in a smart pinstriped suit, receiving a sharp reproach.

“What- who is this vagabond?! Stop this at once!”

          He grabbed her by the neck of her dress as she scurried by and hauled her up to eye level. She pouted.

“Okay, I’m sorry mister but I’m kinda in a sitchu- sititi- suchi-”

          She frowned as she struggled to say the difficult word. The man softened, it was only a cute kid after all.

“Are you trying to say ‘situation’ kiddo?”

“Oh! Uh, yeah. Thanks”

“Let me properly introduc-”

          The man was interrupted by one of the men in the navy suits yelling, “Get back here miss! Oh what I’m going to do to you when we catch you!”

“AH, YES OKAY. NOT A GREAT TIME FOR INTRODUCTIONS MISTER. COULD YOU DO ME A QUICK FAVOR AND RUN.”

          The man needed no further prompting when he saw the cold glint of steel in one of the men’s waistbands. He shifted his grip to underneath the girls armpits as he sprinted as fast as his legs could take him. It turned out to be incredibly fast, almost inhumanly fast, his feet barely touching the ground. When the girl looked up at the man in confusion, she saw not a speck of sweat or flushing on his face. His black hair was still perfectly slicked back as he looked down at her and smiled.

“What? How.. what even are you?!” she yelled over the sound of the wind.

          They burst through the double doors of the train station and slowed to a stop to find it dead night outside.

“Oh you didn’t guess already little miss? I’m a vampire, your father should have already taught you that. I am right about what you are, correct?”

“Please don’t talk about my father… and what DO you think I am Mr. Vampire, sir?”

“A very tiny…erm... humaniod demon. Its odd but that is my assumption. Its not a very good one to be honest"

          He set her down on the sidewalk next to him. The girl fiddled with her fingers a bit as she thought about it. Involuntarily, a giggle escaped her lips.

“Well, I can’t say you’re wrong… although it is a bit vauge"

          Suddenly she looked up. She flashed him a concerning cheery smile as a single tear slipped down her cheek. 

"You know, I haven't had the best experience with parents... so, could you perhaps be one? ... Dad?"
