"Her parents were the ones who constantly made offers for all of us during the pregnancy and for every birthday she had, one of us would receive something, correct?" Zenké spoke then, her eyes misted as if she was looking far away at something.
"Yes, they wanted a good pregnancy and a healthy child. That's all that they asked for. Didn't they send offers to you in hopes you would stay at bay and not cause conflicts?" Mia asked offhandedly.
Everyone had received offerings including her and her husband, Ashtenite, in hopes that they would not take their child away. Technically, Ashtenite and Mia had an influence on who lives and dies but the main influence lied with Tatisic and he didn't always have control over Death.
Death was a creature that was driven by instinct and leashed to Fate. When a person had to go, that person had to go and if they didn't then they didn't. It was plain and simple.
"They did. Good lamb, I might add. The family was certainly not well off but they did well in offerings and provided the best. I had my filling those months," she patted her belly thoughtfully before returning to her knives in front of her.
She didn't mention what the priestess had roped her into or what she was currently scheming. Her mother would most likely disapprove or help and while the former was sometimes annoying, the latter was downright terrifying. Her mother never played when it came to grudges and while disliking violence to an ungodly level, she sure was good at using it to suit her purposes.
Back in the mortal realm, Sabele sat completely stunned. She had always thought that the gods were above them and to be treated with respect and to be untouched. However, she had just been held by a goddess while she cried. She even soaked her robes with her tears and Sabele seriously doubted anyone could say they had soaked a goddess's robes with their tears while being held them and didn't end up getting smacked by them for it.
The couple returned the next day and brought a basket of preserved meats and two blankets. Along with that, they had received word during the night of what they needed to offer. Although the wife was upset about the time they received the news, they agreed it was better than them having to wait longer for the much-needed advice. As soon as Amist returned to check the offering, Sabele gave them the advice and Amist took the fur with her.
