Meanwhile back in the manor, the gang tied up Saul as they discussed what they should do with him in the dining hall.
“I would say we make him our prisoner.”
“Nah if we did that then he’ll just try to escape here or from us every time and we’ll just have to lock him up again. I’d say we eat him.”
“Is he even that tasty? I mean humans have changed a lot over the years.”
“Well, you never know Xin. Now, should I eat him cooked or baked?” Frey said as he thought to himself. The group continues to decide on what to do next
“Um, guys?” Saul quietly speaks up.
“What?” the group responded.
“I know you guys are busy and all but…. “ They looked up as Saul was tied upside down and dangled as there was a cauldron full of hot burning coal along with some spikes surrounding the cauldron and hundreds of crossbows pointing at Saul while he dangled. “IS THIS ALL REALLY NECESSARY TO KEEP ME AS A PRISONER?!” Saul shouted while he shakes while he dangles. The other looked at him and responded to him.
“Yes.”
Everyone still went on their decision while Saul disappointed and bored since he was stuck on the rope for an hour by now. While everyone went on with their decisions, Sara was thinking of her own decision. She contemplates every possibility within her head. Should they eat or kill him? Then his family would be wondering how he disappeared after he invited guests into his home. Should she erase his memories, he won’t remember their encounter. But he might remember anyway considering how she heard that humans may sometimes recover their memories. Should she let him live, there’s a chance he’ll let out their secret to their enemies if he gets kidnapped. Every possibility keeps rushing in her head until the voices of her group cloud her judgment. Annoyed by the voices she slams her arms on the desk to quiet and suddenly… there was silence. The others were curious and leaned forward to hear her respond. She then thought of an idea and grin. She gets up and drags a chair with her along with her bow and an arrow.
“Sara, what should we do?” Frey asks.
Approaching Saul, she kicked aside all the crossbows and spikes out of her way. Confused, the others were wondering what she was planning this time. After reaching the cauldron she kicked it to the side and placed the chair where the cauldron was at. She then fires an arrow and severs the rope dangling Saul on the ceiling then she had him landed on the chair. Then leans him and places her leg in between his legs.
“I want him to decide.” She said with a grin. Surprised and more confused, they have no idea what she is even thinking.
“So, how about it Saul. What will it be? Should we kill you and eat you? Keep you here as our prisoner? On the other hand, maybe I will keep you here as my personal pet. So, which is it kiddo? Tick tock tick tock.” She said while she grabs his chin and smiles with an evil look in her eye.
He couldn’t say anything at all as her presence alone made him feel like he was sinking into the floor. The other members of her group were scary alone on their own but she's on a completely new level. Every possibility was scaring him and he doesn’t know which of them was worse than the other. Being eaten? Killed? Or even kept as a prisoner? He doesn’t know what to do. He speaks out a different answer out of fear.
“So, what will it be kiddo?” she said while she looked at him deadlock.
“I… I chose…. I CHOSE TO JOIN YOU!” he shouted as silence befalls on the dining hall from Saul’s answer. The group were questioning his answer, but Sara was in shock. She stepped away from him to process what he said. She then grabs and holds him high in the air. She looked him in the eye as the iris of her eyes shifted from blue to red.
“What did you say?” she said with fury in her voice.
“I….. I said ….. I want to join your group.” He said quietly. Waiting, the groups want to know what Sara’s answer would be. She still stood in silence. But then she let Saul go and she started giggling. Filled with relief, Saul was glad that she didn’t straight up kill him. But now he was confused on why Sara was giggling. But then her giggling quickly shifted to howling with laughter. Like she heard the best joke of all time and she can’t stop laughing.
“That’s just rich! Imagine, a human in the ranks of The Dark Children of The Night! That’s just-“She continued to laugh as tears of laughter began to swell on her eyes. Half an hour later, she was still laughing as she was rolling around the ground. Everyone in the room was dumbfounded yet concerned about Sara since she still hasn’t stopped laughing for so long.
“how long has she been laughing?” Saul asked.
“34 minutes and 40 seconds.” Frey answers.
“Should we do something?” Saul asked.
“sis you should really stop laughing.” Andrea said as she tried to stop Sara from laughing more.
“Okay. Okay, I’ll stop. It was just too hilarious. Oh god, I think I almost peed myself.” Sara tries to pull herself together but the laughter couldn’t stop her. She then places Saul back on the chair and pulls out a chair herself. She takes a moment to calm herself still but then she straightens herself out.
“So, you want to join us?” Sara asked.
“Ridiculous!” Frey shouted.
“Yeah, no offense Sara I don’t think the kid has what it takes.” One of the group members said.
“He is a human after all.” Another group member said.
“Okay, you’re in.” Sara said.
“WHAT?!” everyone shouted in surprise.
“Sara are you insane? He’s just a kid.” Said Miyoko.
“Why the hell not? Plus, I think it’d be interesting at the least. But I see that guys have a point. And if he does want to join us, he needs to make a commitment to us.” Said Sara with a grin.
“What do you have in mind?” Saul cautiously asks.
“There’s one I have in mind but let’s get the standard stuff out of the way first. Listen, Saul, we are no ordinary group. We are a group of assassins hidden in the shadows of this world. If you’re serious about joining us, there’s an unlikely chance you’ll live as the same person. And most likely this world will try to eat you up. That is of course if we don’t do it first.” Sara said while she grins with an evil look.
The chills ran down his spine again as they all looked hungry in their eyes. He felt more frightened by them each second.
“With that out of the way. Do you still intend to join us?” She grins as the evil eyes return to her. The others were looking down upon him with the same look as she did. He swallows his saliva and responds.
“Yes. Even if I have the likely chance that I might die. I’ll do what I can to support you guys. And if I’m not picking up the pace…. Then do what you please with me.” Saul said while still scared.
Waiting for her answer, he was ready to expect to hear her rejection. He never thought he would die here but he thinks it was nice knowing them at least. Sara leans forward and cuts off the rope tying Saul up with her fingernail. Confused, he doesn’t know what to expect next.
“Then the answer is no. At least not the way you are now. Give me your hand.” She said.
“Wait what?” he questions her.
“Give me. Your. Hand. Now.” She said demandingly.
He didn’t know what to expect from her now but he did what he was told. Sara then holds his left hand closer to her mouth. Without warning, Sara chomps her fangs into Saul’s hand. Saul screams and tries to pull away but Sara sank her fangs deeper into his hand to the point the fangs were crushing some of his bone in his hand. Saul tries to pull away more until Sara lets go at the last second and he falls onto the floor. Frightened, he sees two gaping holes on his hand exposing some of the bone in his hand. Suddenly he felt a powerful pulsation from his body. He felt the pulsation getting stronger and stronger as it weighed heavily on his body. But then the pulsation stopped, he thought all could be well again until he felt one more powerful pulsation only this time it came from his wounded hand. Suddenly a faded glow appeared on his hand and the whole on his hand began to disappear. Until his whole hand began to burn like it was on fire. The burning sensation grew stronger and stronger as Saul screamed in pain. The wounds disappeared but now at the center of his hand, the faded glow was now glowing brighter than ever as illuminated the whole room. The glow then began to fade away then it disappeared completely. Exhausted from the pain, Saul can barely keep himself awake from what he just been through.
“What did you do to me?” He said as he was still all shaken up. Sara then kneels down next to Saul. She grabs his hand and licks off the blood on his hand. Suddenly releasing what she was doing he pulled his hand away in disgust.
“Ew! What the hell are you doing?” He shouted in discus.
“What? I’m treating you.” She said as she licks some blood off her lips.
“By licking the blood off my hand, you bite on? How’s that helping!?” He said, shouting.
“Ow! Again, with the ears. But it doesn’t hurt anymore does it?” She asks.
“It…… it actually doesn’t.” He said as he saw that the wounds on his hands were gone completely. As if it wasn’t there before. But then noticed that there was something else on his hand. He sees the roman numeral thirteen etched on his hand.
“What did you do to my hand.” He asks in confusion.
“I’ve made a contract with you. It marks that we have a deal. But this is no ordinary contract mark” She said.
“What do you mean?” he said while being more confused.
“Any great injury you have endured the contract mark will heal it for you.” Frey said.
“How great-“
Before he could finish his sentence, Frey shot Saul straight in the head. As his brain and skull scattered across the floor. Everyone was in shock that he pulled a fast one on him. Frey stood up and walked closer towards Saul.
“Was that really necessary?” She asked.
“What? He wanted to know, didn’t he?” Frey said.
"And I just had the carpet cleaned yesterday." She said.
Suddenly, the mark on Saul’s hand began to glow. The bullet hole shot by Frey began to seal up along with the blood going back into his body. Saul then gasps for breath after the healing process. Freaking out that he saw his life flash before his eyes that he died for a moment.
“WHAT THE FUCKING HELL WAS THAT FOR?!” Saul shouted.
“Ow. You weren’t kidding about the ears. Look at your hand now?” Frey suggested. Saul looks down and sees that number went down from 13 to 8. He looks back at Frey confused about what just happened.
“That’s what she means. As long as the rest of your body, you’ll regenerate. Even if your head gets blown up. Understand it now kiddo?” Frey said.
“Yeah but… if you guys knew then why accept me?” Sara didn’t respond but then she lifted his head up towards her eyes and spoke.
“Because I’m merciful that way. Trust me, compared to everything else I could have to do to you, this is the most merciful thing you thought of that I could accept. Now with that aside. You need to prove that you’re worthy of being a member of our group.” She said with an evil grin.
“Biting my hand and letting me go through the pain of hell itself wasn’t enough for a commitment?” he said in sarcasm.
“Nope!” She quickly responded.
“Why me?” Saul said.
“That will have to wait for later. But for now, let’s get back to your place. It’s almost morning back at your place. Now come on!” She said as she grabs his arm and storms back to the bathroom hallway.
Sara quickly grabbed Saul’s arm and runs off back to the bathroom mirror. Everyone else in the group was dumbfounded and confused about what just happened and they don’t know how to process this. Well, for now, all they know is that now they have a new member of The Dark Children of The Night. But he’s a human and they’re not. So, they don’t know to accept this. But for now, they have to deal with it. They have to wait and see if he’s really worthy of being one of them. If not, well, he’s gonna be next week's dinner. Sara made her way back to the bathroom and shoved Saul back in the mirror. She then kicks him a few times into the bathroom as Saul screamed through the mirror then she leaped through the mirror back to the human. However now Saul has a lot to live up now he’s a member of their group. How is he gonna survive all of this and keep his sanity intact? We don't know. But it isn’t going to be pretty.
