I reach up for help,

I see it is not there,

and deep within me starts to grow

a need for my own independence

Beneath independence lies

roots of disappointment

This disappointment fills my veins

pulsing to this day

History says, others fail me,

my needs long forgot,

while I stay,

constantly reminding

of my wants

Past teaches me not

to reach up for help

but to reach inside

for answers,

answers no one else can give.
