The Worst Kind of Positive

Unfitting Beginnings

Unfitting Beginnings

Dec 01, 2018

Charlie Connars is a good girl. So, why does she have a sudden craving for ice cream and pickles?

She stands in line at a local Walmart with pickles, ice cream and other assorted sweets in hand as her stomach growls loudly making the lady in front of her look back at her in shock.

Charlie feels her face warm up and knew she probably looks like a tomato with freckles right now.

The craving had hit her this morning during her class and she hasn't eaten since then.

She places her items on the conveyor belt and watches as they creep closer to the employee.

Great, she thinks, socialization.

When the pure torture was over and she had paid for her food she runs out the door to her car.

Her stomach grows louder and louder, practically screaming for the long-awaited treat.

She groans as she pulls into the parking lot of her apartment complex. She finds a car pulling out of a spot very close to her apartment. She smiles at her luck.

Which lasted approximately two seconds.

As soon as the car backs up another car comes flying in out of nowhere and takes Charlie's spot.

Charlie stares at the car with her mouth wide open.

A tall, super bulky man clambers out of the car along with a blond whom he slung his arm around.

Charlie growls and rolls down her window. Without thinking, she screams at them, "Hey idiots I was waiting for that spot so get the hell out of it."

The man scoffs and begins to walk away before Charlie surprises herself again by shouting every curse word she knew and threatening their very existence. After the man's balls were threatened, he drags the sultry blond back in the car and they hightail it out of the parking lot.

Her eyebrows grow apart again and she is left shocked at her behavior. She's been acting like a bitch lately. She assumes her period was coming up and she is getting an overdose of hormones.

She eagerly races up the four flights of stairs and into her very shabby shack she called home.

She turns the key and kicks the bottom right corner of the door so that it would open. She clambers into her apartment and collapses onto the couch, ice cream in hand, about to be in mouth.

Before she can dig into her much appreciated desert, another body crashes on the couch next to her and a spoon is put in front of her face.

"Were you gonna eat that with your bare hands?"

Charlie shrugs and opens the lid.

"What's the occasion? You almost never eat good stuff."

"You and I have very different definitions of 'good stuff'." Charlie replied.

Fiona nods and dips her spoon in the ice cream for a generous helping of the 'good stuff'.

"Did your period start or something?" Fiona asks as Charlie fishes out the pickles out of her shopping bag.

"No, actually I'm kinda late." Charlie says, taking a bite out of the pickle with a satisfying crunch.

Fiona freezes with her spoon in her mouth and stares at Charlie.

Fiona gulps down the ice cream in her mouth. "You don't think..."

"Think what?" Charlie asks.

"Well, you know. Late period, you've been a little moody lately and a little sick and now you're eating pickles with ice cream." Fiona pauses and swings her body to be facing Charlie. "Did somebody get my little innocent baby preggers?"

Charlie scoffs. "Highly unlikely."

"Hey, condoms fail all the time and I know you're straight. Every time I try to set you up with a girl you say no, plus I've caught you staring at the postal worker's ass once."

"Hey, he has a very nice ass. You can't deny that."

Fiona shakes her head."Too flabby." Fiona leans in with a suggestive grin. "So, tell me. When is the last time your kitty got some milk?" She asks, wiggling her eyebrows.

Charlie blushes deeply and looks away. "T-that's a personal question."

Fiona gasps like she just found the cure to life. "Oh my gosh. My little puppy got a bone." She starts laughing maniacally.

"Hey, shut up." Charlie says.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She sighs and slowly comes down from her laughing spree.

"So that's a maybe to being preggers. Huh, I wonder what's happening to you."

"What's happening to Charlie? What's wrong? Fiona, what did you do to Charlie now?" A new person voices.

Evan walks in with his gym-bag slung over his shoulder and his keys still in his hand.

"What do you mean 'what did I do now?' What was the last thing I did?" Fiona asks, throwing her hands in the air.

Evan narrows his eyes. "Last week, you forgot to pick her up from class when her car was broke. Last Friday you let her drink, even though you know she handles alcohol like a 30-pound nun. Two days ago you almost tricked into eating a cashew even though you know she's allergic. Shall I go on?"

"Oh, come on. I wasn't actually going to let her eat it." Fiona says. "She's just so gullible. It's cute."

Charlie scoffs. "I am not gullible."

Evan looks at her, eyebrow raised. "Honey, you once thought that the people at last year's Halloween party were really girl scouts because they were giving out free brownies."

Fiona laughed. "Now that was a fun night."

"They were wearing Girl Scout outfits!" Charlie retorted defensively.

Evan rolls his eyes. "Anyway, what's wrong, Charlie?" He asks and sits down on the couch with them, sandwiching Charlie between them.

"Nothing it's just that-" Charlie begins.

"Charlie is preggers!!!" Fiona yells.

Charlie sighs as Evan goes into his mom-mode and explodes into question marks. "Who did it? What's their address? Are you okay? Do I need to get my baseball bat?"

"I'm not pregnant!" Charlie yells, her face a deep red.

"Then prove it." says Fiona. "There's free pregnancy tests downstairs."

"I know I'm not-" Charlie begins before the door slams shut and Evan was no longer on the couch beside her.

Charlie sighs and goes to the kitchen to grab a cup of water.
