I helped Sasha get back up and get her shoes on. She grabbed my hand and we slowly opened the door to see most the lights were off in the hallway now. I peeked around the corner to see no one in site. “Stay close.” Sasha nodded, and we moved slowly down the hallway. As we got to the stairs I noticed a woman sweeping the floor in front of the exit. I let go of Sasha and focused suddenly on the women. I closed my eyes and focused in on her body heat. I noticed she had something behind her back. I assumed it was some sort of weapon. I felt a tug on my sleeve.
“I’m scared.” Sasha mumbled, as she held back tears.
“It’s going to be fine.” I whispered and knelled down to her level. I wiped away a tear that was forming around her eye, “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
She nodded and tightly gripped my leg. I leaned out a bit more around the wall and put my hand out towards the women. I closed my eyes and reopened them, reveling pure black eyes. I focused more on the women and finally closed my hand. The women below collapsed on the floor suddenly. I felt my legs give from under me suddenly and fell to the ground.
“Cloe…” I could feel Sasha shaking next to me.
“I’m okay…” I mumbled as I stood up and wiped some blood away from my nose, “I hadn’t tried to use a skill like that before on a person.”
“Your eyes are bleeding.” Sasha cried as she grabbed my arm. I took my hand and wiped it across my cheeks.
“Damn it…” I didn’t know what to say or do in. My power was already at its limit for the day. I looked over at Sasha and quickly picked her up and carried her down the stairs. I looked down at the women to see her eyes were closed. I suddenly got a chill down my back and set Sasha down. I leaned over and checked her pulse. I noticed her pulse was weak. I backed away and grabbed Sasha again. I opened the door leading outside enough for us to slip out. I looked around to see no one in sight. I walked down the road that we had driven on to get here. Some time passed, and I still didn’t see the gate in sight. I looked down at Sasha to see she had fallen asleep. I sat her down and whipped her eyes with my sleeve.
“I could have killed that women. What was I thinking?” I mumbled as I brushed some of her hair out of her eyes.
“You almost did kill her. You are lucky she wasn’t one of the Unmatched, we have working inside.” I turned around and lite a flame on my hand. I noticed it was John, “Your little friend there is contracted.”
“What are you talking about?” I glared at him wondering what I should do.
I heard a gun get cocked behind me then. I felt as it pressed against my head. “Mr. Jones doesn’t like it when his pets are out past curfew.”
“Who are you calling a pet?” I sneered and lite my other hand.
John chucked, “You really do have a fighting energy to you. It’s fantastic and can’t wait to match with you. I am a White Match User and right now, do not have a partner, but my brother Nick also doesn’t have a match yet though. Who knows which one of us you will connect with more.”
“I won’t connect with either of you. I don’t connect well with others who are okay with being someone’s pet.”
“Well, after a while in the Wet Box, you may think differently.” John said coldly, “Sadly I hate to see anyone go but, I will say, once you go once, you will fear going back again.”
“There is no way I’m going back with either of you. Sasha and I are leaving.”
“Sasha. That little girl?” John pointed down at her, “Have you really not noticed? I was going to let you know back in the kitchen but Tomas rudely interrupted. You talk about not wanting to be a pet, yet she made you hers. You do whatever it takes to protect her like good little doggy.”
“What are you talking about? She’s just a child and during family days, I was the one that went to her class because she was abandon at the school.” I yelled and lunged at John, “I will do whatever it takes to protect her!” He dodged my swings and laughed.
“I feel bad for you. You have no idea how played you really were. Mr. Jones did not buy her. He was simply asked to take care of her for a day or two. She did so well this time, I heard.”
“Shut up!” I glanced over at where I had placed Sasha to see she was gone, along with Nick.
“Where did you take her?” I quickly turned back to see John only a few inches away as he put his hand on my head.
“I’ve already said to much.” I felt volts of electricity go through my body and felt as my eyes rolled to the back of my head.
