Milky Way sighed, her mind fuzzy. Her mother had given her a den, but she couldn't sleep at all. She was too focused on her upcoming fate. She tossed and turned all night, only dozing off for a few minutes before her thoughts pulled her back to the living world.
Day 1
Milky Way was up early in the morning, the sun had barely kissed the sky. She looked up at the blue clouds as they floated across the purple and gold sky, the stars vanishing quietly. Milky Way smiled at the sight, standing quietly and stretching her limbs. She listened as her limbs popped and squeaked from the sudden movements.
She trotted along the thicker grass, it wetting her paws lightly with the morning dew. She smiling at the calming sensation and continued her walk. She listened as the birds and mice started waking, slowing as to not disturb the field mice that lived nearby.
"Hey there," a voice mumbled, catching Milky Way's attention quickly. Her eyes landed on a young, handsome todd. His coat was a silky maroon red, his paws were a muddy brown that clashed nicely with the white that decorated his chest and lower jaw. She shot him a sweet smile, her ears folding back with it. "Hello. I'm sorry if I woke you." Milky Way said, her icy blue eyes showing a hint of worry in them. The todd gave her a nice, drowsy grin. "You didn't. I usually wake up during the early mornings. Mice are easiest to find around this time." he told her, watching her as her ears perked with interest.
The two talked a bit more, catching some mice in the process. Milky Way learned that his name was Marine Tail and that he was a messenger for the pack. Marine Tail learned about her past and some personal details about her. "I can't believe your father did that!" he yipped, licks his lips clean of water. Milky Way smiled at him, resting her paws in the water slightly. "It happened a long time ago. I'm sure he's changed," she told the fox, nuzzling into his chest fluff. "What was your family like?" she asked him, tilting her ears towards him. Marine Tail's fur bristled at the question, clearly uncomfortable. "Oh, I'm sorry! You don't have to answer." Milky Way said, her ears folding back. He chuckled at her, giving her cheek a quick lick. "Sorry... It's just a sensitive topic for me..." he murmured, resting his small body against her.
"It's okay, Marine. I'm sorry for asking." Milky Way told him, giving his fur a comforting lick.
Day 2
Milky Way was currently sitting on the territories edge, looking out into the woods. She wondered if the other packs changed, moved, or were even still there. Her tail curled, her paws aching. She wanted to run out. To see the woods like how her mother had. But she couldn't. At least, not now. She had the trials she might have to take, and running out of the territory would be considered an act of cowardice. Milky Way sighed, standing quietly and turning her back to the woods.
That is until she heard it. A crack of a twig. A cackle of the forest. Milky Way whirled her head around towards the woods, her stance tensing. "W-Who's there?!" she snarled, glaring at the woods. Her bright icy blue eyes met deep, rich, forest green ones. The owner of the eyes chuckled and stepped into the light. Milky Way saw a large, yet slim male. His fur was thick and his pelt was a mossy green and brown. He gave her a warm, yet mischevious grin.
She soon noticed the male had started to chuckle and tensed more. "W-What's so funny, fleabag?!" she barked, pinning her ears back. He only laughed more. "Your stance. It's all wrong. It's wobbly, and your tail is tucked. You have no threat in your look, only fear." he told her, a smile appearing on his face. Milky Way's fur puffed at that and quickly uncurled her tail. "Also, 'Fleabag'? How dare. I clean myself thank you very much." he informed her, stepping closer. He gave a warm smile as he watched her duck back.
"S-Stay back! I will hurt you!" Milky Way snarled, her voice shaky. She noticed that the male sat quietly a few feet away, smiling nicely at her. "Why would you hurt me? I have shown no threat," he said, tilts his head to the side slightly. Milky Way relaxed, realizing that this male indeed showed no harm as of yet. She sat across from him, attempting to start some small talk. "Milky Way? That's a lovely name," he told her, watching as she gave a small huff. "T-Thank you. What's your name?" she asked, giving a small smile. "Earth," he told her, his smile shining through the green light that showered through the trees.
Day 3
Milky Way was restless. Her mind was flooded with what would happen later that night. She would be confronted, and either put up for trials or shunned and be forced to leave for good. She sighed, quickly trotting in circles. "Do you always do that when you're worried?" a voice said, breaking her thoughts. Milky Way looked over and saw Marine Tail. "Yeah... I don't know why..." she admitted, sitting down in front of him, her paws scratching at the ground. "Why what? You don't know why you worry? Or you don't know why you just looked like a three-legged wolf?" he said, tilting his head. Milky Way laughed at his comment, her ears folding up happily.
Marine Tail smiled and helped calm her nerves. The two talked for a few hours, stopping when an older wolf approached them.
"Hey, Milk," he said, watching her smile. "Hi, Noka!" she yipped, quickly standing. "I have to take you to mom. She's made her choice." Noka told his little sister, watching as her eyes widened. "O-Oh...Okay," she said, sighing slightly. "Good luck, Milky..." Marine Tail purred, nuzzling against her one last time.
Noka and Milky Way reached the alpha's boulder. He pressed against her one last time, then left to go sit on the sidelines. Milky Way looked up at her mother and step-father, trembling under them. "We have made our choice..." River said her look strong and cold. "You will go through the trials...But, if you fail..you must leave this territory..." River stated, her deep blue eyes shining brightly as her body cast a strong shadow. "Of course, Mo-! I-I mean River..." Milky Way whimpered, bowing under the two alphas.
"Your trials will begin in two days...Until then, enjoy your stay here..." River said, her glare softening. Milky Way nodded, watching as the two alphas jumped down from the boulder and walked to their den. Milky Way watched the two, admiring them from the distance. She let out a breath that she seemed to be holding and quickly bounded away. Milky Way rested her head on the thick grass, curling up in the sunlight.
