Mathematician: Epilogue

Mathematician: Epilogue

Dec 06, 2018

My friend was ill with prion disease for a long time.

I tried to visit him as often as I could, while continued research, which was related to prion diseases as well, in the medical institute. The progress has been very slow, and for a long time I didn't think that it will lead to any success in the foreseeable future. But one day, the lead researcher of our group came up with the very perspective idea and instructed me and my collegues to develop it. And the more I developed it, the more enthusiastic I became. I was thinking about telling the friend about it, but I didn't want to get his hopes up too early, and just continued my work.

We should perform an experiment to be more-or-less sure that we are moving in the right direction.

I've spent more and more time at work, trying to speed up the process. When we reached the experimental verification of the idea, I waited for the results with bated breath... And here it is! We have performed necessary measurements, and they confirmed that we are able to decrease prions in the mice's brain with the new method with a high probability!

I hurried to friend to tell him that. I was eager to achieve permission for trying this method on human brain, and wanted to suggest him to become the first testee.

When I called him, another person picked up the phone. When I've asked where the friend is, she said that she is the emergency doctor, and arrived to his home to confirm his death.

-------

A lot of sloppy records have remained after my friend. I've handed them to his colleagues mathematicians. It was the last thing which I was able to do for him.

The most persistent of them has spent a lot of time, trying to understand the scribbles, and it seems like he succeed in it. After time had passed, that mathematician released the series of papers with solution of the millenium problem, which my friend worked on.

I've heard from some guy, that he made nothing more than just found and corrected the mistakes in my friend's calculations. But the author of the papers claimed that this is an underestimation, and he has done the most of the work.

At the end, despite some protests, that another mathematician was managed to assign the result to himself, get the prize and live happily.

The end.

I was always terrible in mathematics and it follows me as a curse throughout my entire life but this is how I would imagine other side of that coin if things were different... I like it. It's dark but seems authentic as well..I think you might like the movie "Pi"(1998) .

Story #1. The mathematician found himself suffering from an incurable disease which slowly eats his brain. Will he be able to fulfill his dream of life and solve the mathematical problem of millenium before he will lose himself in the abyss of madness? You'll see in the story "Mathematician".

Story #2. This God is everywhere and nowhere in the same time. They not create World; they are the World themselves. How can it be? And why this God counts the geometricians as their priests?.. You can find the answers in the short and weird essay "Multidimensional God". Just don't take it too serious. ;)
