Chapter 3
Victoria pulled out a box of her nail paints. If she was going to go to the humans land and meet the King once more she was going to do it in style. Her nail paints where mostly made from plants and monster parts. Each fingernail was carefully filed into sharp talons and painted black with a reddish tinge at the tips.
“Mi’lady?”
Victoria felt her eyes burn like fire at being interrupted.
“What is it?” She snarled.
“.....Your clothing options have been picked and laid out for you decision before being packaged. Mi’lady your eyes are like lava again.”the maid said.
“.....Good, about the clothes I mean.” Victoria made her eyes go back to normal.
When she got angry her irises and sclera changed to look as if they were moving magma inside a volcano. It was a good effect when she wanted to scare people, she supposed.
Victoria carefully used her nails clear paint that was made from Glumba Toads in her lands marshes. Glumba Toads were giant monster toads bigger than most cattle. But they were mostly vegans that ate mosses and lichen in the area. Though on some occasions they were seen eating dead fishes or birds that died from natural causes. They secreted a clear mucus that binds plants to their bodies as they swam or waddled across land for easy access to food when needed. This mucous was harvested to make clear nail paint that kept the designs on longer. Of course she made sure none of the Toads were killed in the process. She would never let such a useful species be hunted to extinction, she was very much about conservation.
Victoria waved her hands through the air as they dried and went over her things.
She was ready and told the stablemen to prepare her carriage.
Victoria looked at her kingdom from the high grounds where the castle was and sighed.
“THWEET!”
Ah, Victoria thought, time to go.
She walked to the carriage and fell into the cushion seat face first. She curled up into a ball and closed her eyes. She wanted to go back to sleep to forget about existence again, but nearly slipped off the seat as the carriage lurched forward and they started their journey to the Kingdom.
“You could be a little more gentler horses…..” She frowned.
She listened to the Ker horses, a species bred in the Demon Kingdom, clip clop down the road and made herself more comfortable on the seat. It was going to be a long ride.
She started to wonder about what the meeting would be about. Did they wish to discuss better trades routes? She already made ones that were overwhelmingly profitable for both sides.
Was there an issue with one of the demons in the policing system? No certainly not, they were under strict rules that they were forced to obey by her own will as Queen and if they somehow had messed up she would have heard about it already, not asked to go to a meeting.
Did another Kingdom wish to create a deal with her own? Possibly, she had yet to create any with the Fae, Merfolk, or Beasts. But it seemed unlikely, their kingdoms were rather far away and they didn't have the technology for mass transportation that far yet. Her kingdom was on one side of the world and only bordered the Humans kingdom which bordered the Fae’s, Beasts, and was not terribly far from the Merfolks Oceans Kingdom. Her kingdom was off to the far left and only bordered the Humans kingdom on land, her kingdom was to far away from the Merfolks kingdom to try trade by boat yet.
Mhhhhhhhm……. They wouldn't want to….declare war or something would they? No, That would be unprofitable and her lands were uninhabitable by human standards or anyone's standards besides demons anyway. The air was harsh and humans could easily become weak to it if they hadn't had time to adjust. She knew there were some human settlements near her borders that dealt with the harsher airs easily, but people from the capital would fall ill within minutes.
UGHHHHH, she thought, this is such a pain to not know why I am being summoned.
She turned over and decided to fall asleep until they were near the border.
