Those who belong to this race can only survive by drinking blood that comes from a living human, supernatural or animal. This means that the blood has to be drawn out either by bite, or blood collection from the donor. The donor cannot be dead or dying when the blood is drawn in order to sustain the Vampire. It is said that Vampires are a mutation of Were genes, but they can not turn others via bite, despite growing fangs when their primal side is forward. In order to turn a Human, Wiccan or Mage they have to have the one being turned, drink a swallow of the Vampire blood. Generally, turnings are done to claim a mate, though turnings have been done to turn persons not sharing a mate bond with a member of the conclave. Vampires can not turn Were or Fae, but if they have Were or Fae mates they can more fully build upon the mating bond using the mating practice of their mate’s race. Similarly to Weres, they can live for hundreds of years. Their eyes turn blood red when they are compelled by their primal natures whether being a born or turned Vampire. When living in a group Vampires are called a conclave. They follow the same hierarchy that Weres do, though without the ability to have Omegas.
