WarBound

It's Not Hopeless

It's Not Hopeless

Jan 12, 2019

I realized, that I may be here for a while, and would have to make the best of it. Soon, I would meet up with my father. I carefully skimmed all the books. They all shared a theme. They were all about spells and witchcraft. I carefully picked out a book entitled The Fundamentals of Basic Sorcery. Curious I opened the book. I sat there for hours reading it. It detailed about magic that could blind, hurt, transform, and heal. The last one got me even more curious. I remember me looking at my leg and psyching myself up. Even with only knowing about this spell for likely ten minutes, I was about to test it on my sore leg. I began to read an incantation. But before I could finish, the book flew out of my hand, behind me. Frightened I swiftly turned around and met with a tall slender figure. It was Terrence's father. "Who are you? How did you find this place?" He yelled. I slowly stepped backwards, until I bumped into a cold cement wall. I was cornered by this man. "Answer me!" He yelled. I closed my eyes in fear, completely shutting myself down. The man stopped and looked at me funnily. He began to take a few deep breaths. I didn't dare look, as I folded into a ball on the ground.

The man watched me and began to chuckle to himself. "Relax, I'll help figure this all out." The man said in a sympathetic tone, as he stuck out his hand. I looked slowly upward to him, and extended mine. He grabbed my arm and lifted me up. "There, now then....what is your name?" He asked. I looked up at him. "Morte......Mortemer Kil-Kilfer...” I muttered. The man looked down to the ground in deep thought. "Hmmm, Kilfer...." He whispered. He quickly looked back at me. "Well you introduced yourself, so it would be very rude of me not to introduce myself, my name is Trevor Ekrium, but that may be a tad difficult for you." He stated. He looked over a bench with books scattered across it. He reached over and grabbed a small metal object. "Ah this is much simpler... you may call me Thimble." He told me. I looked up to him smiling radiantly. Thimble walked over to his table of books, and placed the thimble down. "Now then, how did you get here?" He asked. I suddenly felt less relaxed. I debated telling Thimble that Terrence brought me. Soon I decided that I trust Thimble. "Terrence brought me." I replied. Thimble's face visibly sank. "Of course..." He muttered. Thimble straightened up and glared at me. "Well then, I must inform you that you will have to leave by tomorrow, Peasants aren't really aloud here....but you are only a child, so you will stay the night only." Thimble commanded. I looked up at Thimble worried. "I can't do that!" I yelled back. "And why not?" Thimble asked slowly. "Cause I have to wait for my dad, he's coming to get me!" I argued.

Thimble's face lit up. "What! When!?!?" Thimble yelled. "I...Don't know..." I muttered slowly. We heard movement from some floorboards above us. Thimble moved a finger over his mouth and signaled me to remain silent. I nodded and didn't dare breath. The movement subsided. Thimble sighed. "Listen carefully." Thimble whispered. I sidestepped closer to him. "You must keep hidden, from my family....we will discuss other issues later." Thimble whispered. Begrudgingly I nodded my head. Thimble gave a sympathetic smile and patted my head. "Good gentlemen." He chuckled. He turned around and walked into the darkness, and vanished. I remained silent and didn't move, expecting him to return any moment. He did not come back. I felt drowsy. I went back to my book and began to read about the basics of fire, before I blacked out from exhaustion. That day was truly a tiring one.

Around that time Zachary had gathered his troops. He wore shining Armour, fit for a leader. Over his eye was a dark eye patch, with three red dots on it. The patch was made from excellent cloth, which was rare around those days. He had a bow, three axes, and a heavy broad sword. Micheal ran up to him. "Sir everyone is here!" Micheal stated. Zachary nodded. "Perfect, we head south, towards the manor, my son will be there waiting." Micheal looked at his leader undecidedly. "Sir, if I may....what if your son isn't there?" Micheal questioned. Zach looked over at him somberly. "He'll be there." Zach murmured. Micheal looked at Zach longingly. He reached out his palm and handed Zach a small box with strange carvings. "My father, was a traveler, he traveled to many places. He found this in a distant land named Estern, a land of peace... It brings good luck." Micheal explained. Zach took the box and opened it. Inside a figure of a hooded man, with wings and a scythe stood in it, and twirled around to a quiet melody. "Play it whenever you miss him." He said as he walked back into the army of soldiers. He clutched the music box as the melody played. It's Not Hopeless.
