I woke up abruptly when I heard movement. I jumped up startled. I remained quiet as I heard silent footsteps. Terrence? Thimble? I thought to myself. I looked over to see the little girl from the night before. She wore a frilly blue dress, with nothing covering her feet. She wore a dark blue headband in her messy hair, with a red rose in her hair. We stared at each other for a while. She finally smirked at me. "What's your name?" She asked. "Uh....Morte...Mortemer..." I murmured. She smiled. "Oh cool! My name's Marley! Our name's start with the same letter that means we're meant to be soulmates! ...do peasants like you know what letters are?" Marley rambled. "Yes...” I whispered. Marley began to chuckle. "Why are you whispering? Are you afraid mom will find you..?" Marley laughed. I looked at her confused. She smiled. "Never mind that, why are you down here?" Marley giggled. "I'm hiding." I responded. "But you don't need to idiot!" Marley yelled. She grabbed my hand and began dragging me into the shadowy area that Thimble disappeared into last night. She revealed to me a hidden door, and opened it. She dragged me through a dark and dusty tight little hallway. We eventually reached a wall. She let go off my hand.
Suddenly the room began to glow again. Her eyes turned dark. Her eyes set off a dark blue aura like glow to the hall. It was breath taking. The wall in front of us began to turn horizontally. A glimmer of light peaked through. Slowly the wall flipped and an entrance to a room was revealed. She motioned for me to walk through. I walked through briskly and Marley followed me. She turned toward the outward wall and motioned it to return itself back to its original position. Her eyes returned to normal and she looked over at me. "Here we are." Marley breathed. We stood in a very peaceful room filled with portraits at every turn, all of brown haired people with dark glowing eyes. "Who are these?" I asked. She looked over at me smugly. "Family, but that's not important, follow me!" Marley shouted. She sprinted toward the door on the other side of the room. I quickly ran after her. We sprinted across a long corridor toward a door. She swiftly ran into it. When I entered, she was nowhere to be seen. I wandered into a bedroom, carefully. It wasn't my house, so I had to be careful. I noticed a huge dark blue bed, with a stand beside it. On the stand was a small dainty pot with a rose planted in it. I gawked at the bed. I thought the beds back at that abandoned town were luxurious. I jumped on the bed and laid there. Pure bliss. Suddenly I heard giggling. I looked over to a closet. Begrudgingly I wondered over there. I put my hand and opened the door slowly. When I opened it a pile of dolls fell on top of me. I yelled as they covered me. I shook my body madly to rise out of the hundreds of dolls. I stood up startled. Marley was leaning against the wall laughing her head off. I looked at her unamused.
"So you met my dolls?" Marley giggled. "Why do you have so many dolls?" I yelled. Marley shrugged still giggling. She then dug through the ocean of terrifying dolls and lifted one out. "Look at this one." Marley said. She handed me a small hooded doll. I looked at it. It looked like me. The only difference was it was wearing a hood. 'It's me!" I gasped. Marley nodded her head. "Yeah after I saw you last night I decided to make a doll of you." Marley revealed. 'Why the hood?" I asked. "Oh, Lack of better material." Marley sighed. Then she perked up. "Wait! We have a cloak just like this! You should really wear it!" Marley yelled excitedly. "Uhm...Well..." I responded. "Nope, not even letting you decide on this!' Marley said, as she once again began to drag me out of the room. Again we sprinted down the hallway. She took me to an old closet room and began going through some old boxes. She pulled out an old dusty cloak and handed it to me. "On, now." Marley demanded. Sighing I threw on the cloak. Marley squealed. "AW YOU’RE SO CUTE!" Marley yelled. I looked back at her unimpressed. "Oh that reminds me I meant to ask why you are hiding in my house." Marley asked. "I...um, well...Terrence brought me here to wait for my dad." I responded. She nodded. "Oh Terrence, and Dad are outside...want to go there?" Marley asked. "That would be nice." I responded. "Then let's go." Marley said. Marley and I walked to the backyard, to a beautiful garden. The morning sun was blindingly beautiful. Terrence and Thimble were in a garden. Thimble was looking at Terrence menacingly, as Terrence stared back clutching a rotting rose. Thimble looked at us and smiled. "I see you've met Marley. This is perfect! We must test you this moment!" Thimble shouted. Marley's face lit up. "Yes!" Marley yelled ecstatic. She ran up to her father. "Test....how?"
I asked a bit confused. "Simple child, first you take this ash." Thimble replied. Terrence watched somberly in the background. I obtained some ash from Thimble, and he handed some to Marley. "Don't drop it. Now Marley, May you please show our guest what we do next?" Thimble asked. Marley nodded. "Now all you have to say is...dust to roses." Marley explained. In her hand a bright light enveloped the dust, and transformed into a beautiful rose. I nodded and looked at the dust in my palm. "Dust to roses." I announced. Slowly the dust in my hands brightened up and formed a rose. "REMARKABLE!" Thimble yelled. "Did I do It right?" I asked shyly. "This test is one that proves innocence, and my boy despite you coming from that war-bound world, you remain on of the most beautiful roses." Thimble congratulated. I looked at him confused. "I don't get it...” I sighed. "If you form a rose then you are innocent." Thimble simplified. "And what happens if it was not a rose?" I asked. Thimble's smile faded. "You get a dead rose, and you don't want one of those, but alas we mustn't talk about such things. Please let's all head inside and grab a bite to eat.' Thimble said. "Roses to dust." Marley announced. Our two roses turned back into dust and Thimble scooped them up and headed toward the mansion. Marley smiled at me and followed. I smiled back and began to race her back to the mansion. Terrence watched in the background. He dropped his dyeing rose. Marley, and I followed closely behind Thimble as we re-entered the mansion. He led us into a dining room.
"You two wait here as I prepare lunch." Thimble commanded. He exited through a different door. I gawked at the long table that pretty much took up all of the room. "Morte! Come sit down!" Marley invited. I nodded and sat down. It was only now that I noticed how truly hungry I was. It had been awhile since I had last eaten. I took my seat by Marley. We were both a little surprised when Terrence entered. "Let's go Morte." He said. I looked at him confusingly. "Where?" Morte asked. "Anywhere but here." Terrence replied. Marley got up from her seat. "No! You’re not leaving again!" Marley yelled. "You’re not the boss of me." Terrence mimicked. "I don't want to leave." I added. Terrence looked at me in disbelief. "You said you’re my friend, right? Well then you should do what I say, right?" Terrence growled. I looked at him bizarrely. "What?" I asked. "You’re just a peasant! Which means you must follow your master's rules! I say we leave this place, and go build a tree-house!" Terrence yelled. I sat in my chair shocked.
"Shut-up Terrence!" Marley shouted. Terrence glared at Marley. His eyes turned dark. "Make me." He mumbled. Marley smiled. "Please.' She giggled. Her eyes followed suit. Soon the chairs behind Marley slowly began to rise. I held on for dear life as the chair I was sitting on began to float as well. Terrence lifted his hand as a bunch of cutlery flew behind him. Thimble reemerged from the door with a silver platter in his hands. He saw the commotion and his eyes began to glow as well. "ENOUGH!" Thimble screamed. Marley and Terrence froze as all of the floating objects fell swiftly to the ground. Their eyes returned to normal. I slowly rose from a now broken chair. "Ow...." I mumbled as I held my already hurt leg. Just when you think something was beginning to heal. "WE WILL HAVE A NICE MEAL OR SO HELP ME!" Thimble yelled at Marley and Terrence. Obediently. Slowly we gathered non wrecked chairs and set them up in front of the table and sat down.
Thimble opened the platter and revealed beautifully cooked turkey. How he cooked turkey so fast I'll never know. Slowly he passed out plates and we began to dine in. As I finished my food, we heard a door open. Marley gave a panicked look to Thimble. "Mom's home!" Marley gasped. Terrence began choking on his food. Thimble pointed toward a wall with a bunch of jars on shelf, inside was gooey green liquid. "Mortemer, silently, and swiftly head to that wall." Thimble whispered.
