We arrived at my house at 2:20, relatively earlier than expected. I parked my motorcycle, grabbing my backpack and hopped off, Connor doing the same. Outside, Ruth was waiting at the doorstep, arms crossed. I had expected her to be there, mainly because walking to school has a shortcut driving does not. I take off my helmet, Connor following suit, and smile at my darling sister.
"Hi Ruth, glad to see you made it home safely." I said.
"Yuri, how could you." Ruth said, trying to be intimidating. It wasn't working. "You left me at school, without my car. Why didn't you leave my car keys there?"
I looked at her in disbelief. "Ruth. If you knew about thievery and theft, then you should know that if I left your car keys there with your car, than someone could steal your car."
Ruth replied hastily. "You could leave them in my locker you jerk."
I snapped. "How? I don't know your locker, I don't know your combination, and clearly that is not the smartest choice from your brain."
Ruth sighed and turned to the door, opening it before adding. "Fine. You win. Just make sure your friend has no bruises, bunps, or scratches."
Ruth closes the door and leaves me and Connor outside. I take Connor's helmet and open the garage door, putting the helmets on the shelves for now and putting my motorcycle inside. I step outside, closing the garage door and facing Connor.
"Who was that?" Connor asked, moving towards me.
"My little sister, Ruth." I said, looking into his green eyes. "We actually get along, despite our arguments." I smile and motioned to the door. "You want to come inside for a bit?"
"Just a little." Connor said. "We still have the," He paused. "I guess you can't call it a detour anymore, so what about a date?" I feel the lightest blush creep on my face, for something I can't explain. "Wait... how about just us hanging out?"
I agreed with no definitive care or answer to anything. Connor and I headed inside, Connor following me into the kitchen, where I found Ruth 90% of the time. Connor introduced himself to Ruth while she got ready for when Jonah comes in under an hour. I took a random sheet of paper from my binder inside my backpack and grabbed a pencil from the nearby pencil jar. Connor sat next to me on the kitchen and peered over my shoulder, watching what I was doing. Which, if I must confess, was making 3D shapes and basically scribbling on the paper. That is, until, five minutes of Connor and I going back and forth at what to do, Ruth talked.
"Is Connor going to stay for dinner?" She had asked while peeling carrots over the sink.
I turned to Connor and shrugged. "Up to him, we are going to hang out after Jonah gets here, but apparently I don't know where."
"I could text my mom, see if it's okay." Connor said, pulling out his phone.
Ruth smiled and agreed. "And if she doesn't reply soon, than I'll just make extra."
I changed the subject before hitting a dead end. "What's for dinner tonight?"
"A roast and mashed potatoes with carrots," Ruth said before adding. "Extra butter."
Jonah yelled as he slammed open his door, announcing his presence to the whole neighborhood. "Hey Ruth! What's for dinner?"
I jumped from my seat, startled, and greeted Jonah at the door before he ran the place down. "Hey Jonah. Dinner is gonna be a roast with mashed potatoes with carrots."
"Extra butter?"
"You know it!" I yell enthusiastically as I high five Jonah. I push Jonah into the kitchen, away from Ruth, and towards the counter where Connor still sat. "Jonah, this is Connor. Connor, this is Jonah. He will be..." I trailed off for conformation, which was a head shake yes, "joining us for dinner."
Jonah got excited. Really excited. Most likely because he was introduced to a new character, a new person, who is a friendly friend. Friend? Maybe. Acquaintance? Most likely. Somewhere in between? Hell yeah.
"Hi, nice to meet you Jonah." Connor said, with his hand extended. Jonah said "nice to meet you too", only really fast as he took Connor's hand and shook it violently up and down.
Ruth managed to calm Jonah down, not by tearing him apart from Connor's hand, but instead luring him out with pieces of candy.
It was nearing 3:00, a good signal to start going on an adventure with no beginning and hardly something to end with. I told Connor and he said his goodbyes, both of us climbing into the garage, fetching my keys along the way. I grabbed my helmet, Connor grabbing his, and I opened the big garage door before getting on the motorcycle, turning the ignition on. Connor wrapped his hands, and I went out into the driveway.
"Where am I going?" I asked Connor.
"I don't wanna tell you what it is, but here's the address." Connor said, giving me detailed directions on the spot.
When he finished, I was surprised. "Did you get that off of McGoggleGoogle Maps?" I asked.
"How else would I know?"
I sped off, out of the neighborhood and turning onto the freeway. Cars weren't a problem, and traffic was pretty light. I made my way off the freeway and into a popular area, where people walked the streets in large groups. I started to get nervous. I wasn't one for a crowd, especially the ones at school. Connor told me where to park, parking alongside a big building with no windows. I turned my motorcycle off and stepped off, taking off my helmet.
"What is this place?" I asked Connor. I looked at the building and then back at him.
"You'll just have to find out." Connor says. Instead of walking towards the big building, he instead goes next to it to a small building titled 80's Arcade.
