Beyond the Divide

Long Journey

Long Journey

Dec 26, 2018

That’s a hard question to answer. Will I do it? I mean, yeah, it’d be cool to go to another dimension and get to save the world but that’s a lot of responsibility and I don’t think I can get the job done. What if I or Noah mess up, wouldn’t that add to the damage? I ponder and come up with an answer.

“I’ll do it. It sounds hard, but I think it’s doable. And if we don’t do it, who will?” Mr. Solano smiles and faces Noah expectantly.

“I guess I’ll do it. I mean, like Callum said, if we don’t do it, who will?” Mr. Solano nodded and grabbed papers off his desk. He handed one to Noah and I and said, “We’ll be seeing each other more often, so we need a coverup. If anyone asks, you are both members of the Research Club, these are the application forms. It’ll be a long journey so be prepared. Go home and get some rest, we start tomorrow. We don’t have much time, the effects of this misuse of power have already gone into effect. People are noticing so we need to be quick, you need to rest up while you can.” With my backpack hung over our shoulders and papers clutched firmly in hand, Noah and I hesitantly left the classroom and walked down the steps together. I will admit it made me nervous but I kept my composure.

“Do you think it’ll be hard?” Noah suddenly asked. I thought this through and gave him my honest opinion.

“I think it’ll be the hardest thing we’ve ever done but we’ll survive.” Noah seemed to be satisfied with my response because he hummed and said nothing the entire way to the bus stop. I decided to accompany him because I was going the same direction

“Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, see you,” he said goodbye to me and disappeared inside the bus.

The rest of the walk back to my house wasn’t long, I was in my room in less than ten minutes. My parents did ask where I was but I gave them a simple answer: Research Club meeting. They did find it strange that I suddenly joined a club but they were glad I was doing something other than playing on my computer all the time. I decided that I should do my homework so I wasn’t busy when I got back. After that was done, I took a shower and fell asleep.
