About a few hours after we had started East, the Tower started getting even larger and I had made a mental note to never go back again. The Tower had a sad feeling about it, like many people were tortured there, killed, even. Looking around at the border between the vibrant green and dead yellow grass I concluded that the weather here was different, which only added to the creepiness I felt. Walking on the field surrounding it ran chills down my spine. It was around 120 feet tall, made of stone bricks covered in moss, it resembled Rapunzel’s tower, now that I ponder it. Aether had taken the lead and led us to the entrance without difficulty, like he’d been here before….
“This is it, Callum, we’ll find Chronos’s real body here. There’s a difference between his present body and this one. What he looks like now isn’t what he actually looks like, it’s a disguise, if you think about it. Say, where is he? I’ve heard he came with you and someone else.” Aether said as he pulled on the handles of the ginormous wooden door. Selene pinched her nose as she stepped through and I understand why. The strong smell of fire hit me full-force. I found it odd, though, there no light or smoke visible. I gagged as I walked into a room filled with chests. What is this, I silently voiced.
Find my real body, Callum. I had forgotten he could share his thoughts with me. I jumped and apologized to Selene for frightening her. I shook my head around the room and made way towards the tall, winding staircase. Aether last behind me, Selene in the lead. After every thirty or so steps, there would be a small window covered in moss. It took fifteen minutes for us to reach the top where the tower converged with a turret. It surprised me, I hadn’t been able to see it through the misty clouds outside. The smell of smoke disappeared when Selene opened the door and was replaced with sweat. Shackles dangled from incisions in the wall and connected were two wrists, both scarlet red. The body appeared to have been there for decades, never getting any sunlight. The man’s skin was dirty, bruised, and his cheekbones were very prominent.
Aether reached a hand to the man’s face and immediately pulled away, opposite hand squeezing his wrists.
“What, is it that cold?” Aether gave me a dirty look and I sarcastically chuckled. Selene nudged him toward the shackles. Aether rolled his eyes and started untying them. The sound of clanging was disturbing and gave the place and eerie vibe. I didn’t notice the soft footsteps slowly approaching the room. A man in a black Adidas hoodie entered through the doorway, face unseen. I was taken aback by his modern clothes. I guess being in a different dimension doesn’t mean the people don’t have a fashion sense. They must have gone to Earth and learned how make brand name clothes. Snapping out of it, I looked at Aether who threateningly confronted the mysterious man, fists by his side. The man appeared to be his enemy but he didn’t look it. With a face that looked around 25 years old, still pretty young. In Oyx years that’d be around…. I counted silently in my mind and came to an estimate. That’s like 740 years! Wouldn’t it be boring living for that long? I would not take kindly to it, living a lifetime almost 10 times and never dying.
