Aria woke me up. We were covered in snow and Flint was standing in the middle of the cab with a fire on his palms. Everybody seemed to be shocked of what had happened but the good news is, none of us got hurt. As I checked myself, I noticed that I held on to Trent’s cane.
“Are you okay?” Aria asked me.
“Yes. Thank you, Aria.” I answered. We stood up to check the others. Ed was helping Sif, who slipped under the bed and cannot get out. Everybody seemed to be on their senses and other than that, everything seems to be okay.
“We were forcefully removed and got derailed from the main train.” Althea said, as she opened the door to show us the view – the lines that used to connect us from the main train was bent and somehow looked odd. The rain has stopped so we all went outside. We were shocked as we looked on our cab, who almost got chopped in half, judging from the markings on the sides and it is the only cab left that was in one piece.
“Trent? Trent?” Lea said. Her two fingers in her temples.
“What happened? Where are you?” Trent suddenly answered. His voice panicked and worried. “Is everybody alright?” he added.
“Yes, we are. None of us are hurt, except for the cabs. Ours was the only one that survived, and thanks to Blanche’s snow, she was able to conjure enough to make our impact less devastating” Lea said, while looking a Blanche. “And we don’t have much but as long as Flint is here, I think we can improvise some fire”. Lea added.
“THAT’S THE TWINS!” Flint shouted, who seemed proud of his and his sister’s achievement for tonight.
“How about you guys?” Lea asked Trent in return.
“None of us are hurt but we are stocked in the tunnel. We can continue to move forward but not without you. Huge rocks are back in the way, which seemed to be the reason why your cab got ‘chopped’ from the line.” Ronald reported.
“How big?” Lea asked.
“About the size of the cabs.” Ronald answered. “As to what I see, we cannot dig it up or clear the way. The tunnel’s too weak.” He added.
“Stay where you are and we will get to you” Trent commanded. His voice sounded less panicked.
Lea removed her hands from her temples and looked at us.
“How long does it take for the train to reach the next city?” asked Aria.
“About…. until morning, if we kept the slow pace of the train like the way when we departed.” Althea answered.
“If we go by foot, how long would it take, the earliest?” Aria asked again.
“I, I don’t know” Althea answered.
“I know it’s a hard decision. But thinking about the circumstances, I think that we have no choice but to walk.” Aria said, while wrapping her tattered gown on her waist.
“What makes you think that we should walk?” Sif asked Aria.
“I… I just feel it. I feel it inside me. Something inside me tells me that. If we wait for the others, I feel that something wrong might happen again” Aria said. Everyone had no response. We looked at each other and nodded. “Better have a plan than sit here and wait” Sif said. "Plus, the tunnel's blocked"
Lea held on her temples and called for Trent. “Trent?” she started.
“Lea, we are still here. How are you guys doing?” Trent asked.
“We, uh, we have…” Lea looked at us, took a deep breath and started talking again “We decided to go to the next city by foot.”
“What? Are you joking? Tell me you’re joking Lea.” Trent said, his voice suggested a great shock and dismay.
“That’s all we can do for now, and we don’t think that it’s smart to stay here and wait for you” Lea suggested.
“No, you are not doing this.” Trent said. His tone started to get frustrated. All of us fell silent.
“Whose brilliant idea was it?” Trent asked.
“Let me take it from here” Sif whispered, looking at all of us. “Does it matter Trent?” she added.
“Yes it does. Don’t tell me it was yours, Sif.” Trent answered.
“It was Aria’s”. Sif said. It took Trent a few seconds but his voice showed a stuttering pause. He seemed to be dumbfounded about Sif’s answer.
“And now it’s Aria?” he finally spoke.
“Yes. And as you remember we have Althea’s vision.” Sif argued. With nervous looks, we all looked at each other uncomfortably.
“Follow that which who makes you think, follow what gives you the creep, and start your trail by going after the crimson eye” Sif recited.
“Oh, and now we’re on that now?” Trent said, his voice sounded that he was thinking but he seemed to still try arguing with us.
“I think that Aria is right about going through a different path and I think that she is the Crimson eye. It’s obvious, right? Who has an idea and who just came to us wearing something with red eye?” Sif said.
I felt the chills in my spine as Sif started to relate Aria with the Crimson eye. It made sense, I have been seeing the patient’s gown that Aria held since she arrived and the red logo of an eye has been marked in there. I’ll be honest- for the longest time, I have never been so excited about something new.
“Give us 10 days or so. We will arrive on the next town, I promise. No side trips, no dilly-dallying, no talking to strangers.” Sif assured.
“Trent. This is Lea. Please, at least for this one, trust us. We’ll make it. I promise.” Lea reasoned.
“It’s hard to accept it, but it seems that you guys will not take No for an answer.” Trent said, his voice sounded heavy, as if was keeping a scream.
“Thanks!” Lea answered. “We’ll try to make it as early as we can.”
“Listen, all of you. I will trust you this one time. Alright? I know you can make it. Make use of what you have and travel as fast as we can. I don’t want to lose any of you okay?” Trent said. “And Flint! No burning of trees or anything as long as it’s not important!”
“I’ll take care of him” Blanche said, half laughing.
“Yeah, yeah. I know” Flint answered, he seemed to get that kind of command on a regular basis.
“Good. See you soon” Trent replied.
Lea removed her hand from her temples and the connection was out. We looked at each other, nodded and started salvaging anything that we can from the destroyed cabs. It took us about an hour or two to get everything we need. Good thing, one of the cabs have some bags just enough for all of us to carry the things that we need. I, Ed and Flint took most of the heavy supplies like the camping materials. Sif had the medical-related stuff as she is the only ones who know how to use these and the other girls had the food and other useful things on their packs.
“It’s better that we have these than to mostly rely on our powers. I can’t get all of you sedated at once if something bad happens.” Sif said. “Is there anything that you need or might have left out?”
“I think that’s about everything. We should go now” Althea said while looking at her compass and map back and forth. “We’ll start this way” she said, while pointing near the direction where we were misaligned from the rails.
