Isra woke to the sound of a steady beeping, and when he opened his eyes he immediately shut them again, the brightness of his surroundings too much.
"Isra?"
He perks up at the sound of Corwyn's voice, forcing himself to open his eyes once again. It takes them a few agonizing seconds until they adjust, but soon he sees the worried face of Corwyn in front of him.
"Where am I?"
Looking at his surroundings, the room is relatively plain, although half of the room is hidden by a curtain behind where Corwyn is sitting.
"That's the first question you ask?"
Isra blinks at Corwyn's tone and questions, "Isn't that a normal question to ask?"
"Not after you've been asleep for four days!"
"I've been asleep for four days?" His brow furrows, the last thing he can remember is... "sorry I ruined our day out."
Corwyn's face twists in anger. "That's what you're concerned about? They said you were going to die, Isra!"
Isra hears the mixture of hurt and anger in Corwyn's voice. "... I think you need to catch me up on some things... "
Isra can't believe that he's been unconscious for four days. He knows that his body is growing weaker, but he never expected that it would take that amount of time for him to recuperate. The stress on his body must have become too much that it forced a complete shutdown.
Corwyn explains to Isra all that's happened, or at least what he knows of it. They were in the tent of mirrors when Isra fell unconscious, and Corwyn immediately called for help. He was worried that no one would be able to find them, but he refused to try and leave the tent if it meant leaving Isra behind.
The ambulance eventually came but that's where the real fear snuck in. After arriving at the hospital and waiting an agonizing amount of time without being able to see Isra, the doctors eventually came to explain some things to him.
Isra had severe internal bleeding, which they were able to find the source of, however he was also going into organ shutdown. The doctors were surprised it went unnoticed for as long as it did, seeing as those types of things prompt symptoms before reaching this stage.
The doctors told Corwyn that he should say his goodbyes, and seeing as Isra had no known family to anyone's knowledge, it was Corwyn's choice to pull the plug.
Corwyn has sat by Isra's side for days, the doctors allowing him to stay considering Isra's condition. Corwyn only called his parents once to let them know that he was okay and would be staying with a friend for a while.
"Did you know you were dying?"
Isra doesn't know how to answer this, of course he knew he was dying, but it's never been like this before. He's baffled by how much he's missed in the last couple of days. He's sorry that he put Corwyn through that.
Corwyn's face hardens when Isra doesn't give a response to his questions, and the two remain silent. Isra doesn't know how Corwyn has been feeling the past couple of days. Corwyn thought he would lose his only friend, someone he cared about deeply. He's angry that Isra kept his condition from him. Angry that he won't tell him the truth now. But most of all Corwyn is tired.
Isra doesn't know that.
"I think it's best I leave."
Corwyn blinks up in shock. "You can't leave. You were dying!"
"Trust me, Corwyn. I'm fine."
"Let me at least help you—" Corwyn scrambles to his feet as Isra begins to sit up and take away all the wires and attachments. "Isra you shouldn't—"
Isra ignores Corwyn's concerns and places his feet on the ground, but nearly collapses when he stands. Luckily, Corwyn caught him and eases Isra's body back to sitting on the bed.
"Corwyn, you should go home. I'll be fine."
Corwyn groans, aggravated. "Why can't you accept my help?" Isra's eyes widen. "I didn't sit here for four days thinking you were about to die only for you to wake up and say that you're fine and demand I leave you alone!" Isra opens his mouth to speak but Corwyn cuts him off. "If you want to leave, fine. But I'm coming with you whether you like it or not."
Aside from the shock that Isra is currently feeling from Corwyn's outburst, there's another smaller part of him that feels bubbly inside. He feels himself soften at how Corwyn refuses to leave his side until he knows he's completely alright. Isra absolutely adores the stubbornness this boy possesses, and that's why he puts up no argument.
"Okay. Okay, that's fine."
Corwyn nods, slightly shocked since he was expecting an argument, but glad there wasn't one. "If you tell me where you live we can catch a cab."
Isra winces when he realizes his mistake. "Can we go to your house instead? You haven't seen your parents in days. I'm sure they're worried."
Corwyn bites his lip, knowing his parents are going to go ballistic after his behavior the last few days. Hopefully, when they see Isra, they'll decide against yelling at him at that very moment. Corwyn would do anything to avoid his parents' anger a little while longer.
"That's fine."
Isra breathes a sigh of relief, knowing that he wouldn't have to come up with a living situation lie. The two lapse into silence, although Isra knows there's one more thing he needs to say.
"Corwyn?" The boy looks up. "I promise... I'll tell you everything."
Again...a two part chapter...my insides are screaming...
