I mostly just hung out with the twins today, playing games, and it was fun! It wasn’t hard explaining the point of playing them, and they’re fast learners. Jekyll’s a sore loser, surprisingly, he gets all quiet and sore about it, but insists on still playing until he wins at least one round. Meanwhile, Hyde seemed to be the sore winner, but that went away after a few rounds. He’s mostly a go-getter, but he doesn’t let it get to his head unless it’s a game he’s never played before. Me? I’m more just in it for the thrill.
So we played three types of games, card games, board games, and video games. They’re both really good at strategy, but Jekyll, in particular, is much better at it, if the game is heavily based on strategy, you can’t help but feel that it was made for him as he basically wipes the floor with you for the fourth time in the row, sometimes using your own strategy against you. On the other hand, Hyde seems to think better on the go, in fast-paced games, the kid practically excels - but he needs to work on his poker face. There was this one time when he drew a card, it wasn’t one that he needed, so he ended up having the worst luck, and kept drawing card after card after card until he got something, and each reaction was hilarious.
The most interesting part of their personalities came out while they were playing video games, apparently, they never held a controller before, so I basically bested them in a lot of those. But it’s only a matter of time before they get the hang of it, so I better get good if I wanna keep that up. Anyways, I mostly have three multiplayer games so the one with the most character roster was saved for last because I find it interesting to see what kind of characters people like to play. And I gotta admit, a lot of the characters they chose kinda surprised me, I expected Hyde to be the type to pick the big bad bosses, but he picked a lot of warrior-like or fast-paced characters. While Jekyll... I don’t know what I was expecting, but I didn’t think that the cute critters would appeal to him.
I asked them why they picked those characters every time they switched, and they always seemed puzzled and sometimes have a hard time coming up with an answer. Though, one of my favorites was Jekyll, which was because “it looks squishy”, while he motioned his hands like fluffing a pillow. Anyways, it kinda makes sense that they’d have trouble coming up with an answer, they didn’t grow up with any video games other than some learning platform or puzzle computer games. They can’t say things like “I like this character in this game” or “this is my favorite character”, whatever appeals to them just appeals to them.
But then they asked me why I picked the characters I picked, I was able to answer them easily: I played the games they’re from and liked those characters, or I like how they play in the game we were playing. But then they pointed out that I mostly played with female characters and that’s where I got stumped. I’m not sure why I didn’t notice it before, but it’s interesting to think about, I could say that it’s because they’re cool characters - which they are- but there’s a lot of them in this game. They basically gave me something to think about, I’m sure I gave them a thing or two to think about too.
Overall, it was a great day, I’m glad we hung out and got to know each other. They’re starting to really make themselves at home, this must be what it feels like to have brothers.
