The flight was long, I slept through half of it, not like there was anything better to do anyway.
Then, at last, we arrived. Although we have landed much, much further from the little village. Once again I was thrown on the ground just like the first time. I collected myself and stretched feeling all my bones crack at once. Then turned to the dragon “So, we are here. Are you just going to wander inside the village in that form?”
The dragon looked at me and waited as if I meant to understand. Which I didn’t so she sighed and said: “Move away, so I can change.” My eyes landed on the small bag on her neck and I walked off slightly. As if a weirdly deformed body would interest me.
While waiting I noticed how quiet it is. Not even birds were singing. After a while, the dragon returned in her human form. But it was different. There were no horns. I stared at her trying to think if I imagined them all this time, but then she locked her eyes with mine and they were human. Still jade coloured but no different from mine.
She sighed explaining “Yes, I can look fully human. But it is less comfortable back in the mountain. Her hair was loose and gently flowed on the breeze as she started to head off into the village. This one month was more surprising than my entire life. I followed her shaking my head.
While we were getting closer the noise was getting louder and louder. No wonder there was no animals even away from this place. It looked like a war zone. Everyone was running around in hurry, chasing each other for something or just arguing. The dragon sighed next to me. This is why she chose this place, well she sure will find plenty of sinners here.
As we were about to enter the gates a shiver ran down me. I turned around to the panicked sound which turned out to be a young man on a horse who was out of control. They were heading straight at us. Without much thinking, I shouted, “Wach out!” Grabbed the dragon's hand and pulled her towards me. She tumbled into my chest while that crazy horse ran past us barely missing us.
I sighed “People need to train their horses here.”
Then I looked down and saw those jade eyes looking up at me. I flinched and she moved away with a shock on her face, “you tried to save me,” she whispered so quietly that I wasn’t sure if she spoke at all “a dragon.”
Then I realise she would most likely avoid it herself or the horse would get crushed if it ran into her. I frowned “Force of habit. You don't look like a dragon right now. I forgot.”
However, despite my poor excuse she smiled. I've never seen her smile before, and it felt extremally strange. She looked nothing like a reptile, just a normal girl with a pretty smile. In fact, I've never seen such a pretty smile ever. It made my heart give an extra beat.
“Thank you, either way.”
I swallowed replying “Yeah, sure.” Then turned away.
I cursed myself for being too protective of people, or anything which looked human it seemed.
We then started to head into the town but I felt her eyes on me every now and then. Probably even more curious about me than before.
