I stare dully at the mirror as it slowly chipped away. That word kept playing in my head over and over and over again, 'divorce'. I hadn't ever remembered wearing a ring, or receiving any significant visits from the woman that I had named The Divorcer. Im sure at one point that we were greatly in love, since it resulted in Jeremy, but Im not sure what woman became of her once I left.
Feeling a hand on my shoulder, erupting me from my thoughts, I turn to see Howell, standing there with his hand resting peacefully on my shoulder, looking up at me with his clear eyes. Clear, for once in a life time I could look into them with him being the obvious superior. I looked at the cat I held, slowly handing it over to him. Howell, looking at the cat, smiled excitedly.
"I've always loved cats." He said, looking up at me.
I had given my friend Howell the perfect gift.
