I know it's not as comprehensive as some expected, but my journey into atheism was less about education and truth bombs - though those did come later - but more about fighting fear.
Fear of death. Fear of loneliness. Fear of a lack of meaning. As you can see, I've found my way out of it.
Personally, I think religion and supernatural believes are harmful. They are nice stories that help you sleep at night, but they give excuses. They let you saunter by life, and gives reasons not to care about your footprints on Earth or other people around you as you have your next life to make up for it. In the case of supernatural, you can always blame bad things on curses or ghosts and spirits.
For me and many atheists, this is all we have. One shot at life and the chance to swim in the chaotic reality we have been thrown into. Everyone around us is the same. We treat them with respect and empathy, understanding that we are all lucky enough to be here.
Atheism isn't just about not believing in gods and ghosts. It's about accepting reality and making your own meaning in a life where you come from the void and return whence you came.
