As you know (and if you don’t know look up our previous story here: https://tinyurl.com/y7semp4t ) Koliada is an ancient Slavic winter festival. At the time of Koliada, singers called Koledari walk from house to house, performing songs and dances to bring Gods’ blessing to households and to ward off bad spirits.
As with many Slavic traditions, Catholic Church incorporated the traditions of Koliada and Koledari into Christmas celebrations. In Poland for example instead of Koledari Catholic Church sends priests (often accompanied by an altar boy), to pray for the household and (or maybe – most importantly) to collect money for the parish.
So – if any of you live in Poland – please, be careful and let the right one in!
Slava!
