Chapter 4
“*STOP!*”
Victoria jolted awake and sat up trying to remember where she was.
“*State your name and business!*”
Victoria recognized the Commonstongue most spoken by the humans.
Something about name…..or he was saying something about the fact he was an ANNOYINGLY LOUD INDIVIDUAL WHO NEEDED TO BE TAUGHT SOME MANNERS, or something like that.
Victoria sighed and slide out of the carriage to walk towards the border guard. He was a rather tall burly looking man but she did not care. She knew he was only doing his job and she didn't want to cause a war by clocking him.
She stood in front of him and he blinked at her. He had to look wayyy too far down to see her properly for her to keep her pride from falling into shambles.
Uhmmmm…. She thought, what were the words again?
“*I Queen Victoria of Demon Kingdom, request I access across border.*” Something like that? She thought, even if it was a bit broken up.
“Uhmmm…” The guardsman looked at a loss for words for a moment before nodding and flipping open a notebook. He wrote something down she couldn't see and yelled something incomprehensible over to the other men behind the gate.
The gate made a creaking noise and opened.
The guard gave a slight bow in her direction and waved her carriage through.
She exhaled through her nose and went back to her seat inside, but left her window open assuming she would just end up getting bothered again.
She watched the land go by as the coachman drove them down the road past rice paddies.
The scent of the growing plants and water calmed her somehow. They were passing another field when a giant bundle of straw caught her eye.
It was….MOVING?
She craned her neck as they passed and saw a young man around the age of 20 carrying the large bundle.
“Coachman stop.” She commanded.
She cracked open the carriage door and poked her head out at the man.
He had brown hair and warm milk chocolate eyes.
……...And seemed about ready to drop his luggage while simultaneously passing out.
“Uhmmm…..” Victoria couldn't think of the words to say if he required assistance.
“*Do you*….. Ugh… what is the word for need?” She grumbled.
“What did you say……huff miss?” he asked in the Demonic language, surprising her.
“...You speak Demonic?” She asked.
“Yes I am basically fluent in the language…. Ouch…” He shifted the straw.
“Do you need a ride? I can offer to bring you maybe a bit closer to your destination…” She said hesitantly.
“I wouldn't want to intrude.” He replied.
She rolled her eyes and snapped her fingers. The coachman put down the reins and went to grab the straw. He threw it up above the carriage effortlessly and it landed on the roof with a thud.
The human man gaped at the demons strength as he went back to grab the reins again.
“Are you coming or are we carting your cargo without you?” She raised an eyebrow at him.
The man hesitantly came into the carriage and sat opposite of her.
Victoria crossed her legs and folded her hands into her lap.
She was pretty sure she had to make herself seem like a proper Queen in her new passengers presence, even though she just wanted to sleep.
“What is your name?” She asked.
“My name is Sterling Miss.” He replied shyly.
“May I ask for your name Miss?” He asked hesitantly.
“.....My name is Victoria.” She replied.
“Like the Queen?” he asked hesitantly.
