Mark felt a wave of proudness wash over him as he looked around his home. It had been only two years since he met Sarah, but it had felt like forever. He built a small bed and a dresser for Sarah. The walls were covered in small pictures and paintings she drew. The floor was strung out with all the toys he could find to keep her happy, and laying in his bed was Sarah, sound asleep. He smiled and softly picked her up and laid her down in her bed, pulling up the covers and tucking her in. She smiled in her sleep and snuggled the stuffed toy bunny he made for her. The bunny looked more like a miss-matched knockoff than a toy, but she cherished it. He kissed her head and sat down on his bed. “Tomorrow's a big day for you!” He whispered. Tomorrow was her birthday, and she was turning eight. He wanted to get her something special. He couldn't afford a cake, but a cupcake was the best he could do. He had everything planned out: ‘Wake her up, sing to her, tell her I have something special for her, go and buy it, surprise her!’ he smiled and slowly drifted into sleep.
