“Wakee, wakee, eggs, and bakey,” someone yelled. Pots clashed in the distance.
Lexy opened her eyes to find Christine’s mother standing over Christine banging pots together and yelling at the top of her lungs.
Ann finally noticed that Lexy was awake, “Ok, I’m so sorry. This is the only way that I can wake her up. You’d think that she was hibernating with as deep as she sleeps.” Ann then continued to bang pots over Christine’s head.
“What’s the big idea?” Christine mumbled. “It’s Saturday.”
“It’s 8 o’clock in the morning. Get up sleepy head.”
“But I don’t wanna,” Christine whined.
“Now I don’t want none of that young lady. You have a friend here and you should show respect.”
“Fine,” Christine answered.
“I’m sorry about that,” Christine said after she actually woke up.
“It’s fine. But why is she so hard on you?” Lexy asked.
“Because I got a B in history. I don’t know who founded Malta,” Christine said.
“Well, do you know now?” Lexy asked.
“Well duh,” answered Christine. “No one did. People just took over and ruled the island like it was their own, which I guess it kinda was.”
“Wow! See I would have never learned that if you hadn’t told me!”
“Uh, I guess so,” Christine said.
Lexy could tell that Christine didn’t really care. “So, what do you want to do?”
“Uh, I could make pancakes and you could make butterbeer,” Christine offered.
“OK!!!!!!!!” Lexy shouted.
“Inside voices, girls,” Ann said.
“Sorry, mommy!” Christine shouted.
“What did I just say?” Ann asked.
“Sorry,” Christine said cringing.
Lexy looked at Christine out of the corner of her eye. “I feel bad. I didn’t mean to get Christine in trouble,” Lexy thought.
“It’s all right Lexy. You didn’t get me in trouble with my mom. She just wants me to be perfect all the time,” Christine replied to Lexy’s thought.
“Did I say that out loud?” Lexy asked, “I thought that I had just thought it.”
“Yeah, you said it out loud,” Christine replied. “I hate lying to her. Maybe I can tell her …………………… no, my mom wouldn’t let me,” Christine whispered to herself.
“You sure you're ok?” Lexy asked.
“Yeah, of course. Why?”
“You were just staring off into space.”
“Yeah, I do that sometimes. Sorry!”
“You do realize that you don’t need to apologize so much right.”
“Yeah, my mom says the same thing. I guess that it’s just a part of me.”
“I not sure that it’s a healthy habit.”
“I never said it was a healthy habit. I know that it’s not a good thing to do. Are you hungry? I can get started on those pancakes and you can get started on the butterbeer, if that’s alright with you.”
“Sure. Do you have vanilla ice cream, butterscotch syrup, ice, and a blender?”
“Yup made sure to stock up yesterday.”
“But you didn’t know I was coming to stay yesterday.”
“Let's just say I had a feeling.”
