“Ay díos mios, your burning up.” I couldn't stop the tears from running down my face. “I..I’m so..sorryyy,” I cried. I probably looked so disgusting when I cried being that I'm not a cute crier or anything. 

“Bebé, don’t be sorry.” He pet my back assuring me that everything was ok. “Shhhhhh, it’s ok” he said. When I finally stopped crying he picked me up off the bed and carried me on his hip like I was a child. I was about to ask to be put down, but decided against it. He was only trying to help after all. He grabbed his phone and made a call. I rest my head on his shoulder as he spoke to the person on the other line. “Emily. Listen I need a favor.” There was a long pause before Matías spoke again. “Yeah, I know; but I need you to come as soon as possible. Gracen is sick.” Another pause. “See ya at 10. Thanks, bye”. He put the phone down and walked into the bathroom. I didn’t want him to let me go, but he put me down onto the countertop. I was still sticky from the sweat and my hair stuck to my forehead and sides of my face. Not only that, but my throat was a bit sore and I had a killer headache.

 “Bebé, you want to take a shower?” he asked sweetly. I nodded my head slowly. He didn’t even tell me to respond with yes or no, he just gently took me off the counter and placed me on the ground. He still held me up though, because honestly I was two steps away from passing out. “I’ll have to take your clothes off ok,” he said. I nodded again, but this time a bit more unsure of what I was agreeing to. “Don’t worry, I won’t take off mine.” He pulled off my hoodie, then my underwear. He kept all of his clothes on, started the shower, and stepped in with me when the water was warm. I felt so weak as he washed me. Matías had to hold me close the whole time just so I didn’t fall.

 When we got out, he immediately grabbed a towel and dried me off. He grabbed two pairs of underwear and a t- shirt. He pulled the t- shirt over my head and helped me put on my underwear. I leaned on the counter and looked away as he changed his own soaked garments. Matías picked me up again and we went back into the room. He placed me on the edge of the bed and kneeled down in front of me. “Did you have a bad dream?” I nodded my head. “Anything hurt you?” I nodded. “My throat and head. My body overall feels really weak and my legs ache,” I responded.

“I’ll go grab some medicine and water for you. I’ll be right back,” he said as he headed for the door.

“WAIT!” I shouted, grabbing his wrist with both my hands. I acted, before even thinking. “Please don’t go,” I said hating the fact that I didn’t want him to leave. I was afraid to be alone. He sighed and gave me a weak smile. “Bebé,” he said as he knelt down in front of me. “You're not feeling well and though I have a doctor on her way I need to give you some medication now. Please just stay up here, I won’t be gone longer than a few seconds.” 

With that, he left the room and went downstairs. I sat still on the bed until  he came back with pills and water. “Lights on,” he said. The lights immediately cut on, illuminating the room. Matías gave me the pills and sat on the bed leaning against the headboard. I moved over to him after taking the medicine and sat in between his legs, my head resting on his chest. He wrapped his arms around my and pet my hair. It was silent for a few seconds. “What time is it?” I asked. “Around 4 a.m., try to go back to sleep,” he responded. “I’m really sorry, for causing you trouble.” 

“Shhhh, don’t be sorry just relax. I’ll wake you up when Emily gets here.”

I began drifting off into sleep as Matías pet my hair. “You smell so nice,” I said sleepily. Matías let out a small laugh. “You think so?” He said, still petting my hair. “Yeah.” He placed a kiss on my forehead. “Go to sleep, bebé.” 

“He's being so nice, but do these moments really out number the amount of times he hurt me? I don't think so, yet somehow I can't stop the feeling of security from sneaking up on me. There must be something wrong with me,” I thought.

I tried to push all my thoughts to the side and relish in Matías’ scent as I fell into a deep sleep.
