I just had a basic class in psychology but the teacher once said something that I think is the single most important thing people in this day and age:
Beware of the Time-Life reality.
Beware of the idea that life is supposed to be all hopping and skipping in the fields. Stress and anxiety are part of life. I fact, you wouldn't be alive without those emotions because they motivated your ancestors to stay out of dangers and fulfill their needs.
In this day and age, we are taught to either numb those emotions with addictive substance or medications, or the advertising industry uses those fears to sell us junk from soap to political ideologies.
When harnessed, though, those emotions can be turned into something productive: there's a reason all good fighters come from tough, stressful neighborhoods. How many comedians actually draw their inspiration from pain?
