Matías POV

Before Emily arrived, I threw on some clothes and carried Gracen downstairs. I placed him on my lap and held his body against my chest. After a few minutes, Emily let herself into the house and placed her bag by the couch. “Hey Matty,” she greeted quietly. “Hey,” I said turning to look at her. 

As always, she looked a hot mess. Her long, black hair was up in a messy ponytail and her round glasses were almost falling off her face. She wore an oversized blue sweater and baggy grey sweats.  She's Korean- American and is really fond of kpop, anime, and Spanish telenovelas. You can imagine how she acted when she heard my accent and figured out I was fluent in Spanish.

“Bebé, wake up,” I said slightly shaking Gracen. He scrunched his face and nuzzled his nose into my chest. “You're so cute,” I whispered to myself smiling. Emily sat next to me and patiently waited for Gracen to wake up.

Despite Emily's appearance and hobbies she’s not a person to be messed with. Being older than me, and someone I’ve known for a while she is one of the few people I respect and trust. She's a medical and psychiatric doctor, so I know I can trust her regarding my bebé’s health. 

After I shook him a bit more, Gracen finally opened his eyes and sat up, leaning against my chest.

“Hi hun!” Emily said in an endearing voice. God I didn’t like her talking to him like that. It just pissed me off. “My name’s Emily. What about you?” She asked extending a hand. “Gracen.” He shook it sleepily.

“Well I’m just going to ask a few questions and figure out what the problem is. Ok?”

He shook his head in response and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. 

“Matías,” she said turning towards me, “I need to have a word with you before I attend to Gracen.” I placed Gracen down on the couch and went with Em down the hall to another t.v room I had, though this one also had a bar in it. “Listen,” she started, “go to work, I promise I’ll take good care of him. Also you have those cameras right, so it shouldn’t be a problem if you leave,” she said. “Not to mention you have another meeting today starting at 11:30.”

“No,” I said coldly.

“Matías, I need to have him alone, so that I can get truthful answers to my questions. His answers will be influenced if your sitting there hawk eyeing him,” she confessed.

“Tch, fine.” We walked back to find Gracen asleep on the couch. Damn, it hasn’t even been 2 minutes. Now I’m starting to reconsider leaving him, he looks terrible and can barely keep his eyes open. “It’ll be fine,” Emily said reading my facial expressions. 

“Gracen, wake up. I’m going to the office, but Emily will take care of you ok?” His eyes shot open and he stared at me. “It’ll be ok, Emily is really nice and I’ll call to check up on you. Ok?” He nodded his head ok. Any other time I would've wanted him to say “yes sir” or “no sir”, but he’s not feeling well so I’ll let it slide. Gracen got up from the couch and wrapped his arms around me without saying a word. I returned the gesture and placed my head on his shoulder.

Gracen let go, too soon for me, and sat back down on the couch as I grabbed my stuff and head out the door. God, I hope he’ll be ok with her. Maybe I’m stressing out too much I need to calm down. I pulled out the driveway and headed to work, dismissing the fact that I was leaving a sick Gracen for the whole day and while he was being the most affectionate. He would definitely be back to being cold later.
