Kyran leaped, building to building until he had reached the right one. He checked the paper in his pocket. 1726 Draconi Avenue, it said. He silently slid the left window on the second floor. He entered the room and looked around.
Inside, the room was painted with swirls of purple and green. In one corner lay a huge pile of pillows and stuffed animals (including one large polar bear that was giving Kyran the creeps). A bed rested in the opposite corner, and in it was Jacquie.
Kyran was about to reach into his other pocket when he heard footsteps approaching. He dived under the bed without being seen. A pair of feet appeared in the doorway. They belong to Jacquie's sister, Jules.
"Jacquie, are you awake?" she asked. "Did you take my phone?" she asked without waiting for a reply.
"No," Jacquie said. "You should really just duct tape it to yourself if you keep losing it."
Kyran could practically hear Jules' eyes roll.
"Okay, but if I find out you do have it, you are so dead!"
Kyran heard the footsteps retreat and waited another full minute for good measure. He crawled out from the bed and reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, wooden box, with strange, ancient symbols on it. They glowed dimly with flickers of royal purple and gold. Kyran cautiously opened the box toward Jacquie.
A burst of colors flew from Jacquie, ranging from red to gold, to green, and purple. The box closed itself and Kyran shoved it into his pocket. He was still rather dazed from the whole spectacle. He hadn't expected it to be so bright.
He felt a breeze rush into the room and he realized that he had left the window open. He peered over the windowsill and made sure that no one had seen what had just happened. A small, blinking red dot was coming from the ground. As soon as Kyran had spotted it, it disappeared. He shook it off as nothing.
He climbed out of the window, but not before glancing at the sleeping Jacquie.
