The group climbed up the sun mountain, as Jacquie now called it, using a ladder that Kyran had built that lead to the top.
As a time killer, Kyran told everyone how the war began. Apparently, some crazy lady began telling of a war that was about to happen. Some people began getting strange ideas and felt suspicious of one another. Eventually, the kingdom of Jedimer got so paranoid that they closed off all relations with other kingdoms. Then Tokaluj began accusing them of practicing witchcraft in secret and things began to spiral out of control rapidly.
"Wow," Riordan said. "All of this over a crazy lady?"
"Yep," Kyran said.
"So, what happened to her?" Daniel said.
"No one really knows," Kyran replied. "Most people say she died in the middle of one of the first battles, trying to stop what she had started. Others believe that she was paid to start this and is and sitting on a high and mighty on a secret throne somewhere. But personally," Kyran said. "I think she's still alive, but in hiding."
"Where?" Kirna asked.
"I don't know," Kyran said. "For all I know, the old crow's dead. Anyway, we're almost there."
He was right. They had reached the top. At the top, Jacquie could see the sunset. It was more beautiful than anything on Earth, but the mountain still surpassed it by far.
Jacquie could see the house up ahead. Honestly, it looked more like a cottage to her with its straw roof and brick chimney. The rest of the exterior seemed plain, with only windows. Jacquie turned the corner of the house and was surprised by its solid gold door.
"This is the humble abode that I built myself," Kyran proclaimed proudly.
"It looks more like a cottage than an abode," Riordan pointed out. The others nodded in agreement.
"Well, then," Kyran said, "this is my ‘cottage'. Come on, we have to get some things before nightfall." Kyran opened the door and stepped inside."Oh, and watch your step," he added. "It's a bit messy in here."
Jacquie and the others followed in behind him and saw that he was right. Scattered on the floor was a hodgepodge of balls, glass shards, wooden planks, jewelry (Jacquie had no idea what he was doing with that), and half-finished projects that laid in a corner collecting dust.
"Sorry for all the stuff," Kyran said as he began to dig through a metal trunk.
"What's in there?" Robin asked.
"A lot of things," Kyran said. He kept searching until he muttered an "Aha!" and pulled out an assortment of jewelry.
"What's this?" Daniel asked.
Kyran explained everything as he pointed at them. "Those are the elemental rings of Zodar, made for his allies, and those are the spirit necklaces of Neforma, made to destroy all her most hated enemies."
"She must have been hardcore," Daniel said.
"She was," Kyran said. "She ended up defeating all of her enemies and died a happy life in secrecy."
"Wow," Jacquie said amazed. "Where did you get all of this?"
Kyran mumbled for a bit but then managed to say, "I… may or may not have… stole some of this."
"Wow," Robin said. "You're an alien and a thief. What's next, you're gonna tell us that you have magic elf powers or that you're the king of this crazy place?"
"Well, actually—"
"You cannot be serious!" Robin exclaimed. "Which is it the powers or the being a king?"
"Powers," Kyran replied. "Not elf powers though. Have you seen those guys? I'd be half the size of you guys!"
"So," Kirna asked, "what kind of magic stuff can you do?"
Kyran was about to answer but a dark blur darted from across the room and tackled him to the ground.
