"We're gonna jump off the mountain?!" Robin shouted. "That's a suicide wish!"
The gang was now standing at the edge of the mountain, with the stars beginning to show. Jacquie peered down and was immediately reminded of her fear of heights.
"There's not enough time to climb down the mountain. It's okay though. Your powers will help you," Kyran said. "Everyone's powers should help except for Daniel's, Maize's and… Jacquie's."
He looked very hard at Jacquie's necklace.
"Anyway, just trust your powers and you'll be fine."
"Really?" Johnathan complained. "We don't even get a beginner's course or something?"
Kyran sighed impatiently, but he gave Johnathan what he asked for.
"Okay, Johnathan has teleportation, Robin can shape-shift, Maize has invisibility, Kirna has hydrokinesis— You do know what that means, right?" Kirna nodded and Kyran continued. "Riordan has terrakenisis, Erik has aerokenisis, Daniel has pyrokenisis, and Jacquie—"
"Why don't we just climb down the ladder?" Robin interjected.
"We need to get down now!" Kyran said, desperation seeping into his voice.
"Why?"
An otherworldly screech pierced the night sky.
"What was that?" Daniel asked.
"What I've been trying to avoid," Kyran said, giving Johnathan a hard glare.
"But what is it?" Kirna asked.
"There's no time!" Kyran yelled. "Erik, you help Maize get down; Riordan, you can help Daniel. Jacquie, you can hold on to my hand."
Jacquie was surprised at the strange request and felt heat creeping into her cheeks. She had never been more thankful for the dark.
A second screech, shriller than the last one, tore at everyone's ears. Kyran was saying something, but Jacquie couldn't hear him. Then, Kyran suddenly grasped her hand and jumped off the mountain.
"Well," Johnathan said, scaring Jacquie by being next to her, falling as well-- along with everyone else. "I'd never thought I'd go out like this. Following a guy blindly off a cliff." He paused and said, "I have some stuff I want to get off my chest."
At that moment, he was enveloped in a blue light and both he and the light disappeared. Robin was also surrounded by a light, this one red. When it disappeared, in Robin's place was a... robin. It chirped and flew to the ground. A huge gust of wind blew fiercely and began carrying Erik and Maize to the ground.
The earth below them trembled and Jacquie held on tighter to Kyran's hand. Kyran's eyes glowed again as he shouted, "Widribos!" Gold and silver wings sprouted from his back and they flapped, slowing their fall. Jacquie was relived, but not for long.
A clump of dirt and rock came out of the mountainside and rushed straight past her face. As the pieces rose, Jacquie noticed that Johnathan was on the ground. The rock rose up to Riordan's feet and the dirt reached Daniel's. Now the only person left falling was Kirna.
An icy blast shot from her hands, and she looked surprised that it happened. It landed on the ground to form a curved slide. She slid down it and landed on her feet. Kyran and Jacquie landed beside her.
Kyran asked, "Where's Robin?"
The robin from earlier was flying above Riordan's head. It was enveloped in red light, and when it disappeared, in its place was Robin. She then fell promptly on Riordan's head.
"Could you get off me?" Riordan's muffled voice asked.
Robin mumbled a "Sorry", and got up.
Riordan spat out a piece of dirt and said, "That was AWESOME!" He raised his hand up and Johnathan joined him for a high five.
"Not exactly the time for celebrating, guys," Kyran said.
The screeching came again, and this time Jacquie could see what was creating it. It seemed similar to a griffin, with the head of a horned eagle and the front half of a lion. This one though had bat wings larger than its body. Its back half and tail were green and scaly, like a dragon's. It shrieked again as it dived down the mountain.
"Erik, Daniel, Riordan, hold it off!" Kyran shouted. "Everyone else, stand back for a moment." Everyone did as they were told.
Jacquie watched as the creature fought with the boys. Riordan bombarded the creature with rocks from the mountainside while Daniel summoned fire from his hands that singed its face and wings. Erik was making the wind drag the creature back up the mountain.
"Jacquie, Daniel, everyone else!" Kyran shouted. Jacquie turned and now saw that his eyes were pure white and a glowing circle had formed on the ground. "Step inside the circle!" Jacquie and the boys rushed to the circle.
Now that they weren't attacking it, the creature dived down as best it could with its singed and mangled wings. Everyone was in the circle except for Erik, who was using the wind to keep the creature at bay.
He was walking back into the circle when he tripped. He lost his concentration and the wind stopped. The creature took this opportunity and charged at Erik. Erik sat there, petrified with fear.
Then, the earth where he sat catapulted him into the circle. "Thanks, Riordan," Erik said. Riordan nodded and he threw the chunk of earth at the creature.
Kyran's eyes glowed more intensely as he shouted, "Mulurva Fasique!" The circle quickly began to form walls above their heads, finishing at the top forming a cylinder. The walls swirled with colors and Jacquie watched as the colors traveled up, mixing to form new, astounding colors.
"What is this?" she asked.
Kyran said, "This is going to take us to the nearest town so we can get to the castle faster."
"How? We aren't moving," she said.
"Oh, just wait," Kyran said.
Suddenly the walls dropped, and it let bright sunlight and beautiful sounds.
