The young woman blinked. She gasped, and it was then that I noticed one of her eyes was the color of oceans far and wide; while the other was of bark, woodlands, and chestnuts that would fall onto the ground in autumn. “Who are you?” I asked her.
She stayed silent.
“Do you know how to speak?”
“I’m not going to give you my personal information if you’re pointing a gun at me, stranger.”
“Oh.” Crap, I thought as I put the gun away. “Sorry.”
She made a face, like she was dubious about my presence, still. “It’s weird that you have a weapon on you.”
I sighed, shook my head. “Well…what can I do to make you trust me then?”
The young woman paused for a moment, and then she said, “You could start by telling your name.”
My name?
