Told from barista’s (Donatella's) point of view
After our date we texted each other constantly. Alina would come get an iced mocha coffee from Extra Caffeine at least once a day. We would have gone on another date but suddenly everyone and their brother for some reason decided iced coffee was the it thing this summer. So i've been running around on high gear my entire shift. But it's worth it because Alina is always waiting out front to walk me home. And to my eternal jealousy every male in the cafe would be staring at her. I would have knocked out a few teeth but the second Alina notices me her eyes are locked on me and me alone. She looks at me like i'm her air. Like i'm a treasure and that fact alone is the only thing that keeps me from knocking the teeth out of the guys jaw I was serving that wouldn't stop staring at her chest. I checked the clock ten minutes left. I ran back to the counter. “Hi, welcome to Extra Caffeine. What can I get you?” I asked the man at the counter. It took me a second to get a good look at him and it was only then that I noticed he looked extremely drunk. I got a little nervous. He looked at me with glazed eyes. “Ya, you can get me you. Darlin.” I took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes. “I'm sorry sir, but we don't do that here. Your drunk please leave and come back when you're sober.” I could tell that angered him. “You slut!” By now Alina had decided he was a threat and started weaving her way through the crowd toward me. But before I saw it coming the drunk man slapped me. Hard. The force of it knocked me onto the floor. The man was about to hit me again but suddenly Alina was there she grabbed his wrist and like a pro she flipped him over her shoulder. He hit the floor with a thump. He struggled to get up but before he could get his balance she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt the threw him out the door. Damn my girl was such a badass. She walked toward me. This time the crowd parted for her. I didn't blame them the look on her face clearly read that if anyone blocked her way she was going to flip them over her shoulder. When she reached me I was still on the floor. She gently touched the throbbing place were that man hit me. When I winced her eyes flashed with rage. She gently picked me up bridal style. By now the barista assigned to take over the next shift had showed up. Alina nodded at her and carried me out the door. She carried me to her car without a hint of strain. She’s so strong. She opened the passenger side door and set me in the seat. She buckled me in like a child. I didn't mind. The side of my face was throbbing and I was exhausted. My eyes drifted closed. I took a deep breath the car smelled just like Alina. I reached over and grabbed her hand. She automatically stroked the back of my hand with her thumb on reflex. I focused on that instead of the throbbing side of my face as I fell asleep still clutching Alina’s hand as she drove.
