The Suburb was quiet and empty of life, other than the bugs that filled the nighttime lights and the sounds of the city coming from far beyond the suburb heights. It was just another walk home in the evening for Jerome, whose shift has just ended.
Something to his right caught his eye, it was as if the light momentarily flickered. He looked around him and noticed that there was indeed an oddity in his surroundings. The bugs had frozen, and the sounds of the city have stopped. All that remained was the eerie silence of an empty void, and Jerome knew well that only one thing could cause such.
"Soul Dimension" he whispered.
A faint gold light surrounded his hand as black symbolic markings slowly burned themselves on his body. Slowly, they etched their way towards his heart.
"No need to get all violent Jerome" a voice echoed
It bounced across all directions, making it difficult to discern its origins, but Jerome is certain of one thing: the source of the voice is another breaker.
"Temporal Manipulation huh." he muttered.
He felt a presence from behind. In an instant, he turned back, only to see a hooded man donning a heavy leather coat. Chains wrapped themselves on his arms and a malevolent aura surrounded his body.
At that instant, his blood ran cold and his body refused to move. His mind was blank, but his instincts knew. One wrong move could lead to his death. The person in front of him was more than capable of ending him with a simple stare, if they so chose to.
"Soul Dimension" the person said.
Red markings began to link up to the man's seal.
"Perhaps this is what you wanted to see." the unknown breaker replied, displaying his seal with arms open as a sinister smile crawled on his lips.
Jerome examined the seal. It was a rare one, undocumented and uncaptured, something that only a Breaker of great ranks can wield. He wanted to take a few steps back, but was ultimately unable to move along with the frozen time.
"Who are you" he asked
"I am known by many names, but all those who dared to speak of me in an ill manner saw their faces frozen in sinister fear as the last of their blood drips from their veins." the person replied.
He stared at Jerome, bending down as energy concentrated on his core. He then leapt up and dark energy surrounded him.
"Bearer of the Death Seal, I am he who takes away the life of humanity. I am the Destroyer!" the breaker shouted.
The annunciation of that name alone made the ground shake. The glowing in Jerome's hands flickered. The power in the Destroyer's voice shook the energy within him.
"The Destroyer. I've heard that name before" Jerome said.
The markings all over his body started to glow as his energy became more concentrated.
Destroyer dashed directly towards Jerome at a speed faster than anything could that could fly.
Jerome attempted to sharpen the air around him to defend himself. But before he could even lift a finger, a cold hand touched the back of his head.
"Too slow, Jerome. You'll die quickly in the battlefield if you don't unlock your true potential." Destroyer said.
"Type A. Remember that." Destroyer continued, before he was interrupted by a projectile that almost hit him.
Time slowly started to return.
Both Jerome and Destroyer stared at the direction from which the projectile was thrown and found a person atop a rooftop. The sounds of the city have slowly returned, and the bugs slowly began flying again.
"It seems like I've overextended my stay, and you have company too." Destroyer said as he slowly vanished.
"We will meet again." he said as his voice echoed out into the distance.
The moment the projectile hit the ground, air concentrated into the impact and expelled in a blast that flung Jerome across the street. His bones collided hard unto the wall and his body was damaged so badly, he found it hard to stand.
"How unfortunate, I missed" said the attacker
Jerome mustered his strength and managed to get up on shaky knees. He channeled his energy unto the air around him to help him stand.
Looking at the direction of the attack, he recognized the person who attacked him.
There could be no one else. Only one person could cut through air unnoticed with blades that could pierce even the toughest barricade.
"You caught me unprepared, Silent Dagger." Jerome replied
Silent Dagger powered up the air around her blades and launched two more blades towards the sides of Jerome. The blades cut through air, releasing no sound and offering absolutely no air resistance.
Her power with her blades was unrivaled. She was dangerous from afar, but she's even more dangerous when she's close. Her blades can sprout from any direction with no warning. It was a match that was lost right from the beginning.
As expected, the swords flew towards him from both sides and exploded, but Jerome was unharmed this time. He repelled the air that raged towards him and came out unscathed, however, the area was filled with dust, blinding Jerome.
He slowly stepped his foot one after the other to where he last saw her, with his eyes fixated at the ground. Her blades could puncture through anytime, and she can set them up silently and strategically if he can't see her.
After a while, the silence filled the area once more, and no trace of Silent Dagger could be seen. Jerome's breathing calmed down, and his stance lightened up. As he slowly straightened his legs, a sudden trail of sharpened air cut an inch out of his hair. Quickly, he rolled to his left and scanned the area once more.
Dust still filled the whole place, and even the markings on the floor were destroyed by the explosion. He placed his hand on the floor to read the road, but ultimately failed to discern his location.
"The time of atonement is upon you." Silent Dagger said, her voice echoing throughout the dust
If it were an open area, then the voice would be weaker at some point, allowing Jerome to determine where Silent Dagger was. Since the dust has covered both of their sights, both could only assume the position of the other.
However, in no area did the sound weaken, rather, to him, it even seemed as if the voice bounced back repeatedly.
Realizing this oddity, he quickly thickened the air around him. In his numerous dodge attempts, he had wandered elsewhere.
Slowly, the dust began to fade, and Jerome was able to, once again, see the evening street lights, but he was still unsure of what to do. Silent Dagger has the edge over him in range, power, and agility. Unless he activates Gominus Na, his agility-altering wind technique, he wouldn't be able to catch up to her speed but activating such spell would leave him defenseless.
While surveying the rooftops, he took little steps, until gradually, he was out of the area. The moment his head touched the light under the streetlamp, an explosion occurred from behind him. His own wind saved him from the wind of Silent Dagger's blade and the force of the explosion, but it won't save him from a direct hit.
His eyes quickly scanned rooftop after rooftop as his lungs felt heavier than they were before. He tried to follow his own protocols, but it led to nowhere. He could feel his own breath heating up although the evening was cold. With no idea of his enemy's whereabouts, he is unable to do anything. Even if he thickens the air around him to its maximum thickness, Silent Dagger's blades will still cut through nonetheless. As he continued to scan around, he saw one blade heading straight towards him.
Unable to come up with another plan, Jerome held his breath, and in a final shot at survival, he whispered: “Gominus na”
But the blade was faster.
Cold air embraced his skin, and a void greeted his eyes. At the end of the tunnel, a magnificent white light shined through, accompanied by the harmonious melody of singing. He thought he was flying, until a plane passed in between the tunnel, or rather, in more known terms, the moon.
He looked down and saw that he was hundreds of feet up in the air. Gominus Na made him fast enough to instantly travel to such heights, but he is usually unable to control its distance.
His eyes widened as the air zoomed past him at rapid speeds. In the distance, he saw more blades flying towards him. With a few kicks, he was able to dodge the projectiles. By hardening air, he was able to make temporary air platforms that allowed him to change his direction. With speed, he may be able to finally reach Silent Dagger, but he still has not found her.
He landed at the nearest rooftop. At the instant his feet touched the ground, a blade zoomed past his eyes. Before he could see the area from where it was fired, another blade flew and punctured his right arm. With unbearable pain numbing his mind, the only thing he could think of was survival, so he thickened the air around his arm as the blade exploded, revealing flesh, bones, and muscle, while saving him from the explosion itself. With what little he could see, he managed to find Silent Dagger hiding behind a chimney.
“Ernisum Ka!” he shouted as he used his left arm’s wind to fling a satellite dish towards Silent Dagger, destroying the chimney, but Silent Dagger was able to move out of the way.
Without any other options, he flung the blocks from the broken chimney towards Silent Dagger while he scanned around for things he could manipulate through his wind.
A car was parked just below the house he was standing above of. Due to the adrenaline rushing, he jumped down, but forgetting to use Gominus na, he fractured his own ankles. Disregarding that pain, he flung the car towards where Silent Dagger last was, only for it to destroy an abandoned garage.
Jerome quickly tried to scan again for Silent Dagger , but before he could do so, a cold blade touched his neck.
“You became rusty Jerome.” Silent Dagger said, before her hand shut him down.
