So many conflicted emotions arise from this one panel. I am not quite sure how to explain this, but though I see cute creatures (I don't know anything about Pokémon), I also see their tears while they smile, their bodies slowly decomposing, losing their shape. And they trying to reach for one another before they have been engulfed by oblivion. It is very difficult to see cuteness, things that are associated with childhood, to be in a state of anguish. Even more when that state is ambiguous.
