For some reason, most Vietnamese guys refuse to wear an ao dai for their wedding (with a very few exceptions amongst my friends). However, whenever one of my Vietnamese gal friends has a non asian groom, they all jump on the occasion to "wear a dress" and have such a big grin wearing the ao dai for their big day. I haven't quite figured out why it happens so, it just seems to be the case, and I know a lot of my friends will recognize themselves in this little cartoon.
It's just like when I, a Christian, wore a hijab and my mom sewed my gown for me to wear to my Muslim friend's wedding! Even her groom(who's only met me a few times at our workplace) thought I was another Muslim friend! I think when you're outside the culture or faith, you want a chance to wear something, out of respect and fun, that you wouldn't wear otherwise.
Welcome to Peach and Cream. I am a French Canadian of Vietnamese decent (Peach), while my husband is English Canadian of German decent (Cream).
Together, we write these little comics depicting our adventures as we mix both our cultures and everything we love. We also now have our little toddler Twinkie and baby Melon to share our story with.
Do let us know if you've had similar experiences in your life!
PS: We publish one episode per week every Tuesday ^-^ Hope you enjoy the read!
