Spring was on its way, both Will and Nate didn't get chosen for the Hunt, which was fine by them, they were only sixteen turning seventeen, and it was in all honestly a long shot, since each year it has been the same 'council' that did the selection and most of them were old traditionalists, believing only the wolves that are of 'age' had the right to participate. But then again they played favoritism, choosing only the 'younger pups' from their own Packs and it just so happens that their Pack, didn't have someone on the council, since they weren't one of the 'head' Packs in the North, they were a small Pack and secluded Pack high up in the mountains, and chose to remain as such, only to leave to help run the holiday resort that brought them 'income' to make a sort of 'living' in the current modern day.
The main reason they were fine with it... they got to plan Missy's birthday party with Millie - it was her idea.
Since no one knew which day it was, they had decided to make it the spring equinox. Only a few people would be there, including the Alpha and the Elder, she only knew she was to attend a party with a handful of people from both the Coven and the Pack to be introduced to some people.
Missy had tried her best not to 'hide' from the two, but every time they had her in sight, she felt like a child being reprimanded... But doing just as Gale had taught her she had found the small 'details' that would outweigh the mean authoritative gazes the both of them shared. The Elder's though wasn't as bad it was more that she just looked 'scary' like the witches some of the human stories portrayed, with wrinkles and Witches portrayed in 'human' stories... Okay maybe not that dramatic, maybe more like a mean old granny? But the Alpha carried himself with such 'might' that it was hard to approach him - it almost felt 'wrong' to be in his presence.
The few good hints she could make out was what she noticed when she shied away from the Alpha, when she would steal a glance back, he would seem disappointed. And the other, even as he carried himself so high, each time he would audibly try to approach her with a calmer and gentler voice, if she was to close her eyes and not look at him she would almost go as far to say, his voice was 'warm', as warm as Gale's magic she so loved.
As for the Elder, she had the feeling that the Elder felt 'guilty'... always trying to make up for something with everyone, and looking for the final approval from... her? Missy couldn't understand it, but it made her feel 'guilty' herself not knowing what she had to give 'approval' for - that for which the Elder showed this 'twinkle of hope' each time she would find Missy looking at her.
"Okay, what are you thinking?" Millie interrupted Missy's thoughts as the both of them stared at the dress in the mirror Missy was wearing. She shook her head, to wave away any worries Millie had.
"No, we promised that you weren't going to keep bottling all those thoughts of yours for another day. Out with it!" Her hands was quick and nimble as she signed, telling Millie, that she still didn't know how to approach the Alpha or the Elder, though she wasn't so to say 'scared' of them anymore.
"You should stop worrying about it, just like how you're not petrified with them being in the same room, you'll be able to 'talk' with them someday. You're more impatient with yourself than you might think we are. We are all perfectly fine to wait for you, so stop rushing yourself! Now you got your Charm, right?" Missy nodded pulling it out from around her neck, it being hidden under her new dress. Millie was still deciding which one she should have Missy wear for tonight's 'party'.
"Perfect let's go show Nate!" Millie dragged her friend out the room and down stairs, she lived in the Pack-House along with her mother and father. The 'house' had enough rooms for thirty wolves, and then of course, mates shared rooms and some young pups too. So there were a lot more than 'thirty' wolves staying at the Pack-House. The Pack consisted of just short of a hundred werewolves. As for the house itself, it had three stories and was built in a 'U' shape around a heated pool that overlooked the cliff side, the mountains around them and forest down below a sight of awe. If one looked closely one could even find the resort far below like an thumb sized stain on the 'white' backdrop.
"Come on!" Millie dragged Missy straight pass someone that Missy immediately recognized as a 'new' face. His dark eyes held hers briefly causing her heart to lurch. Millie was quick to feel her friends heart racing, pulsing in her wrist that Millie held on tightly to. Millie felt Missy's feet dragging, and felt her stumble, quickly helping her to regain her balance.
"I'm sorry, I keep forgetting, you're not as fast as me." Missy shook her head, it really wasn't Millie's fault. Hands on her knees eyes closed she tried to catch her breath - trying to calming herself first with her own ability before relying on the Charm.
Hiding behind a corner, he glanced around to see the girl that had caught his attention. Her snow white hair and pale milky skin was a stark contrast against the black dress she was wearing. And then there was the hint of her honey eyes that he could make out, it was mesmerizing. Trying to get a better look, he noticed her eyes become a darker brown before returning to it's golden honey color, only this time flecks of silver light danced in them. When he noticed that she was breathing better he quickly disappeared behind the corner again.
She felt the white-noise starting to quiet down and stood up straight, turning her head in every direction to try and find the eyes that caused her head to start ringing, but he was nowhere. Did she imagine it? Or was that a flash of her past, memories trying to resurface?
"Snow? Are you alright? You don't look too well." Millie held her hand up against Missy's forehead. Brushing her hand away, she asked Millie if she saw someone?
"There are lots of 'someone', you have to be clear!"
("Dark almost black eyes, tanned dark hair, his maybe nineteen or twenty? Not part of the Pack") Missy quickly summed up.
"Oh... No I have no idea." The stranger stood silent listening in on them, confused to why he had yet to hear 'Snow' speak.
"Come one we have to go show Nate. After all you are the Bell-of-the-Ball tonight!" With that said, Missy flinched realizing that all attention was going to be on her... She wasn't ready for that just quite yet!
Once the two was gone, he stepped out from hiding and headed towards the Alpha's office.
"Caesar Livingstone, I presume?"
"Yes, Alpha. I'm here on behalf of my Pack, to ask if it is possible to delay next year's Alpha tournament that you are hosting. As you are aware your winters here in the north are something fierce, and not everyone is as hardy as the wolves that grow up here in the North."
"Well I see no problem in that, your Alpha could have simply called, there was no need to send his son."
"I must admit I came to 'scout' in hopes of gaining some advantage in the upcoming Tournament."
"I can't say I'm very happy to hear, another 'Alpha' is 'scouting' my territory... But I appreciate the honesty."
"Alpha Faust if I may ask, is there some sort of celebration tonight? I saw some girls dressed in gowns and talking about it."
"Ah yes, nothing much, it's my... daughter's birthday."
"I wasn't aware you had daughter?"
"Adopted. She's rather shy, so only a few handful of people are attending, that she is comfortable around, and a few officials. I would offer you an invite, but I'm just scared she has another panic attack. She doesn't do well with crowds, so I'd rather not add an unfamiliar face into the mix." The Alpha quickly explained.
"It is fine, it's more of a family event anyways. I'd not want to intrude, I was simply curious. But she wouldn't happen to be a white haired beauty with dark brown eyes, that looks more like a porcelain doll than a person, would she?"
"That would be her. But she has light honey brown eyes... you saw her eyes change color?"
"Yes." He decided not to hide the fact.
"I see. It tends to happen when she stars panicking. Like I said she doesn't do well with crowds, but even less with unfamiliar people."
"Which happens to be me... I didn't know, I didn't even stop to help."
"Helping would have made it worse, she'd be fine if she had someone with her."
"Ah yes she did, a another girl was dragging her behind. It kind of looked like she struggled to keep with."
"That would be Millie. I'll talk with her later about running in the Pack-House."
"Your Pack seems very lively."
"And you are very mature, I'm surprised your father already entrusts so much responsible on you."
"Thank you..." A knock sounded on the door.
"Come in!" Alpha Faust called out, entering was the Snow haired Beauty and Millie along with Nate and Will.
"Dad, we're going to show Snow around the Resort, we'll be back for the party." Snow had her eyes glued to the floor, she had a piece of her dress pinched in between her fingers twisting the material nervously. Alpha Faust nodded while hiding a knowing grin.
Watching her every movement up close, without her noticing his presence... It felt like he was frozen on the spot. Something slowly 'breaking' inside of him as he watched her so... 'broken'... His thoughts racing back to the memory of a dear friend and new guilt tearing at his heart for 'killing' her.
He wondered if she was able 'survive' would she be as 'broken' and 'scared' as this girl in front of him? He couldn't picture her as 'weak'; she was strong... she was stubborn and impulsive, carefree and at he same time took everything so seriously. She was a genius, the only time he had ever seen her 'weak' was when she cried that one time... But it was nothing like the fragile girl that stood in front of him at that moment, no matter how similar they were in appearances she was nothing 'her'. He refused to think she'd ever be driven to such a deplorable state even if she was able to hold on after everything she had been put through...
Snow raised her head, meeting him face-to-face, before turning to face the Alpha, as if she hadn't noticed his presence. She tried to 'smile' but her lips flattened slightly before she re-fixed her eyes to the floor.
"Maybe get her dressed in something warmer than that before you go?" The Alpha gestured to the dress. But they were already leaving, not paying him any more attention.
"Sorry about that, they have no manners!"
"Don't mind that. They were just excited to go have some fun. I need to take my leave as well now, I don't want to keep you from finishing up the party arrangements for your daughter."
"I did nothing, the three planned everything, so I free to give you a tour of the Pack, instead of you going out to 'scout'. How about it?"
"Sounds good."
